I would love to start a weekend challenge tournament; call it TBR/Stretchlon Easter tournament or something like that. I don't want to compete against Andy's Impact schedule. I have too much respect for him.

What I do want to have is one of the best Invitational tournaments. Host the out of town teams with hotels and such. Have scheduled activities like golfing, fishing or a tour of NASCAR HOF. At least something along those lines.
A fun time...challenging teams....and lasting memories. I'm thinking Easter might be the best time to host something like this.

What do you guys think? Obviously, it is too late for this year, but I would like to get a start for next year. I'm thinking top teams throughout the state. It doesn't matter what the classification---a good team is a good team.

...and I've been told Prepster is hosting the opening ceremonies and Stretchy will cover the extracurricular expenses...and Southern is including all the peanuts you can eat. Oh and did I mention the winner of the tournament is invited to join the SC Panthers to Puerto Rico? All expenses paid...........hosted by Andy Partin/Don Hutchins/Freddy Suggs. Aren't they great guys?!!!!!!!!

    Inaugural TBR/Stretchlon Challenge

Funny that you post this today (unless you have hacked into my computer). Just yesterday I was approached by the top coach in the College Club Team ranks about hosting a college vs showcase tournament. He is going to invite the 6 best club teams and he wants me to invite the 6 best showcase teams (How do you choose). The date is Oct 4/5 at the USA Baseball Complex. This would be a championship style tournament with good bragging rights to the Champion. I know when the Stretchlon Stars played the college club teams the last few years the kids really enjoyed the games and the competition juices were flowing. Southern would be a great tournament director and there is plenty of room for TBR members to help out. Now all we need is for you Braves to choose the teams. Meanwhile if anyone would like to nominate a showcase team please send me or Braves a PM.
(Maybe teams that win regular showcase tournaments during the summer would automatically qualify for this event?)

Any ideas/thoughts post them here on TBR.

No rain just a question. It does sound like a great idea. What would be the age range. As most showcase teams peak at 18. I would think a college club team would have players a few years older. Maybe wrong but if those details and a few others could be worked out. I would say Go for it.

    Showcase vs College Club Teams

The age factor is not a problem its part of the great idea that it is. The top showcase teams you are taking (or should be) have the top players in the state, that will play in college and you are facing much older players on club teams. Most of the players on these club teams were very good hs players that decided to attend a larger university than play in college at a smaller school. Its all about the competition. The fact they are older only adds to the intrique and the level of the competition. We played JUCO's during the summer and it was a blast. The players enjoy playing against the older college guys because it offers a greater challenge.

I think this is a great idea. Get the best college club teams you can find and then get the best showcase teams as well. Go at it and see who is the best. Great idea!!!!!

Who is better? A college club team or a high level showcase team? Im betting on the high level showcase teams. Let me say this. No one is goign to want to play the Dirtbags this summer. But thats just my opinion. Let the games begin.

    Oh yeah those guys!

As usual there will be some great teams playing this summer. SCP have always sought out the best competition possible. That wont change and it shouldnt.

I think this is a great idea. I hope it gets off the ground.

    How about conference vs conference

A conference all star team vs another conference all star team? Now that would be fun. A 2/3 series between conference's. As soon as he high school season ends each conference picks an all star team consisting of all seniors in their conference. Then they play it off. Probaly will never happen but you got to agree with me this would be a blast to see.

I think everyone that is a fan of high school baseball should try and make it to Cary to see the Impact Challenge. In one day at the same location you can take in 6 hs games with some great teams and players. And if you have not seen the US Olympic Complex yet you need to! It is absolutely breath taking.

First part- I'd love to see that and it would be possible with seniors, but you would have to overcome Legion issues and competing showcase teams.

Second part- This is one I will not miss. Some of the best HS talent and teams you will find in this state.
