On an average day how many coaches are on the field and working girls at practice? This includes parents..etc. My guess is that at the good programs there will be 3 to 4 people involved. I believe athletes need to be under a watchful eye at practice and not spend too much time by themselves at the high school level. Does anyone know of a program where 1 person attempts to do all the coaching with no help and has been successful at it?

our hs program has four coaches that lead practices for both jv and varsity. we have a pitching/catching coach, offensive/batting coach, defensive coach and outfield coach. at this time we dont have any parents helping, this has not worked out in the past, but currently we have some great parents i wouldnt mind helping us out.

Lees McRae and Belmont Abbey only have 1 coach doing everything at their program? I am not sure how successful either one are, but I just don't see how a college coach could do it alone. High School is one thing...college is another.

    That is just SAD....

It is sad that a coach would not want help especially FREE help! That would only benefit the girls, the team and the coach! Is there a control issue involved? If so that coach needs to drop the issues and ask for help! The coach would probably be SHOCKED how much more the team could get accomplished at practices and the more you accomplish at practices the better the team is in games! That is the major goal, CORRECT?
I understand the, school won't pay for assistant thing! We are talking about a GIRLS sport you know? We can't hardly expect a girls program to get as much funding or attention as a boys program, can we?
Spare me the posts about how wrong I am, when it changes, I along with a lot of other people, will notice! That will be quite a day in HISTORY!!!!!

At Butler we have usually have four coaches but last season we had only three and both have worked well for us. This year looks like it will be three again. And we practice varsity and jv together as a unit.

    Dawgfan.....

You hit on a VERY IMPORTANT subject! The jv practicing with the varsity!
You know there are some programs, where the jv's are treated like the purple haired step child? They are treated like the virus no one wants around! The players on jv are treated like they are not worthy of anything because they are jv! This approach is sooooooo wrong!!!!!!!!!!
The jv should be looked at as the feeding pond for the varsity! The jv players should know that if they, give 100% effort, are determined, dedicated and show maturity and improvement, that they will be promoted to varsity! They should not be shunned to the little dust bowl (oldest praftice field on the property) or (the middle school field down the road)! They should practice with the varsity so that they learn what is expected from them, everyday, in order to be promoted to varsity! Not practice everyday and play games to just have the Head coach go out and recruit another player from another district to come in and take the lead position on the varsity team! That is not fair!!!!!!! Your time, dedication and efforts on the JV team should earn you a chance on the varsity team, and I don't mean a bench warmer or uniform model!!! Or just a runner, there is a sport named TRACK for that!
The programs should be considered on group to an extent! It should not be the Varsity are the Queens and the JVs are the peasants!
I just had to bring that up!, it is JMO!
