Thanks, I'm surprised this didn't come up before.
Pretty interesting news to say the least.
So when are they draft-eligible ?

That's interesting. I haven't thought about that. I assume this year

I can't recall this happening before where a legit pro prospect starts as DI
then goes JUCO, let alone two going to the same school.
It may be a case where their previous coaches would not release them.
I remember a former FSU player who had to play NAIA because of this a few years ago.
I always assumed that once you enrolled in a DI that you were not eligible until your junior year, regardless.

To be honest, I don't see this happening very often, so I don't know. But I know the Poulks and whatever they decide to do, I'm behind them 100%. They obviously know what they are doing...they are some smart people, unlike me.:cowboy:

Nope, you are draft eligible immediately. Sounds like Eason is using some connections at Pitt. Don't know that I would have taken Chisenhall after the fiasco at USC, but that's not my decision to make and I guess I don't know the complete 100% true story. But if all that was printed in the media is true, I'm not sure he deserves to be playing college baseball.

It appears that he has changed his life around. I don't mind giving a kid a second chance.....a lot of productive people have been given 2nd chances. From what I have been told is that he comes from a great family, a lot of family support and is genuinely humbled from the stupid mistake that he made.

Lord, if I ever got caught from some of the stupid things we did in college...well, I might be typing this from another place.

Wow, you would think you would see lots more guys taking advantage of that loophole. Thanks for answering that question. So if this means Ackley moves to the OF to join Williams and Fedroff, who's on first ?

I agree. Don't know why that doesn't happen more often, or better yet, why more high profile players such as the kid UNC got this year, that was one of the top prospects in the country, wouldn't attend a JUCO so they could be drafted immediately instead of tying up three years.

I sure hope he has. And I see your point on the last statement, but it was a little more than a stupid mistake. I'll go on record saying I've never seen this kid before and don't know anything about him personally. But hopefully he truly regrets his actions and will strive to take advantage of the break he has gotten. I wish him the best.

    Getting back to the original theme of this thread, here's one more UNC transfer, Matt Petiton (LHP) to Tulane, bringing the number up to four;
    Petiton
    Bard
    Cox
    Poulk

007 before you get to carried away with "what UNC is doing to NC baseball players," you may want to look at their starting lineup this spring. The entire infield, and two of three outfielders will hail from the great North State. Kyle Shelton will be the 1st baseman if Ack moves to left. In addition you will have three of their five starters will be from NC as will their closer. Does that sound like a problem with NC high school baseball players. I certainly do not think so! By the way that does not include any of the relievers that are likely to get significant innings.

Fox, Holbrook, Forbes, and company, by the way all NC natives, have very good recruiting connections in NC and have made it to two CWS with NC talent they have recruited.. I would not be too concerned about them discontinuing recruiting NC tallent.

Transfer situations are individual in nature. Why one transfers and one does not can vary quite a bit. There are always issues that most are not aware of nor should we be, that can determine a transfer situation. In UNC case it is almost always in the best interest of the student athlete when it occurs. (The coaching staff should be proud of the way they have delt with the new NCAA rules. They have been very player focused through the entire process.

I agree with you Braves, the NCAA has lost total perspective with the implementation of these new rules. Most do not help, and in fact most hinder, student athletes.

Sorry for the length of this post but, while maybe not intentionaly, UNC coaches are being somewhat discredited ( maybe to strong of a word), I will go with "questioned," for their treatment of NC highschool athletes. They have a marvolus record and they know what this state's talented baseball players have ment to their program. They will continue to recruit this state well.
