Well, to quote an old buddy of mind, Julius Caesar, "It has been said---it will be done". If 246 says it, it is the truth.

Things look good from Forest City...

Not sure why a list of four transfers would generate a lengthy discourse defending UNC coaches, but I agree with everything you said about the past and present teams and coaches.
I mean how could there possibly be a problem with NC players when 3 East Rutherford Rockets are on the roster?
Well, it's the future, starting next year, that I'm concerned about.
Four in-state players have left the program since July.
7 out of 11 2008 recruits are out of state
On the other hand,we do have one more player from ER coming in to replace the one leaving, so I guess everything's ok.

    Coach Forbes

has had a great influence on the stability of the program. Besides recruiting, he has helped the atmosphere in the club house become much better. Before his arrival there were problems.

It is not the list of transfers that "generate a lengthy discourse," it is the inference in your post, that UNC nolonger considers NC it's primary recruiting ground. I don't have a crystal ball, nor really any inside information, but to assert that UNC nolonger recruits NC well based on one recruiting season, when the past 8 seasons they have demonstrated otherwise, is reaching at best.

And it is the East Rutherford Cavaliers not Rockets.

    Hahaha....he was just testing you.

Personally, I think it's awesome that UNC has plucked so many players out of a small area. Of course, Forest City grows baseball players like some towns grow trees.

I know 007 and I know he is concerned somewhat because:

    1. He's a huge Carolina fan
    2. He's a huge fan of NC HS players.

He doesn't want the recipe of success that UNC has enjoyed to change. I don't know if it will. I guess we will have to see.

But all I do know is that two of my favorite players of all time, Chad Flack and Kyle Shelton are still there....and so is my buddy, Mikey Cavasinni.

I never inferred that NC was not or will not continue to be UNC's primary recruiting ground. There will always be more NC players on the roster than any other state.
Nor did I ever say that UNC is not recruiting well in NC. The quality of 07 & 08 guys is as good or better than ever.
What I do see is UNC getting much more active in recruting nationally and the # of NC players declining.
If the trend continues then the days of UNC's roster being 75+% in-state will be over.
That's not an assault on the coaching staff, that's a fact.
    Hey, I've got an idea.
Why don't you respond to what I am saying, rather than making wrong assumptions about what you think I'm inferring.
After all, you don't have a crystal ball.

Hadn't visited here in awhile. An interesting discourse.

Transfers out are so highly individual that it'd be hard for me to draw any general conclusions. The only commonality that comes to mind is that this is the year to transfer, given the impending limitation.

I also tend to agree with 007 that the fact that it's become easier for UNC to recruit nationally suggests that we could see the percentage of NC players decline some over time. However, knowing this staff like I do, it's unimaginable that they'd ever take their principal focus off of our home state.

One thing's for certain, though: The consistently high level of recruiting there will continue to cause the internal competition for innings to be immense on an ongoing basis. If a player isn't prepared to come and give it his all, day in and day out...both semesters, someone else will win the playing time.

First of all 007, I appreciate your opinion and as prepster says the times they are a changing. One of the reasons for my lack of posting is that the written word, particularly mine, does a poor job, replacing a face to face conversation. Your concern as you expressed is a valid concern. My point, was much better stated by prepster. "However knowing this staff like I do, it's unimaginable that they'd ever take their principal focus off of our home state."

It is my belief and my hope that this statement remains true. :13:

I think it speaks volumes about quality of the UNC coaches when you guys give them such glowing endorsements. Kudos are in order.
I thought prepsters comment on the value of internal competition was on the money. The only reason UNC even got past ECU and WCU in the regionals was their superior depth, IMO. Depth is a by-product of internal competition because even the 2nd string guys are battle-tested.
Now, what do you think about having 15 freshmen on the 08 roster, with the
new rules right around the corner ?

    As usual, you're WAY too self-effacing, 246!

Now that I'm a card-carrying member of Boshamer's "Railbirds Emeritus" group, I cede all commentary to my younger...and more directly active...colleague about this year's freshmen. (Except that I hear that some of them are really good!)
