Good point. All three are highly respected. Like everything else, we all have opinions. I'll go with Wellman. I like the plan. JMO.

I'm not smart enough to figure all this out, but won't this new rule make two-way players a hot commodity ???

The bottom link contains an article that states the number of counters will be 30 for 2008-2009 school year, and 27 for 2009-2010 and after. Has that been updated to take effect beginning this year?

That's what a couple of ACC coaches have told me.

About what you would expect from the three. UNC and State are near the top of the food chain. WFU is not. Could it be that Fox and Avent don't won't to give up some of their talent to others?

I'm not close enough to answer that one accurately.

I think 35 is a good number. If you lower that number to say 27, then there are 8 players times ever how many D1 teams there are in the country that will not be able to experience playing college baseball. The best players will continue to be able to play somewhere but the last 8 players on the D3 teams will be left out. D3 players do not get athletic money. These kids are playing for the love of the game and I think it would be a shame if they do not get that opportunity.

D3 players don't get "athletic money", but they do get "academic money" that often far exceeds most DI packages. This academic money flows out of a magical geyser for talented athletes who go D3. The only kids who are truly playing for TLOG (with no designs on compensation) are playing club baseball.

    Two way players

Its going to depend on the program. You can name on one hand over the years guys that have been able to make a significant contribution being 2 way guys. Pitching at that level and all the work it requires is extremely tough. The program between starts and the time needed to continue to work on the trade itself. It takes a very special player like a Micah Owings , Sean Doolittle type of player. If you want an idea of how tough it is you could probaly ask Alex White. The types of programs that these talented players sign with also sign some very talented one way players as well. In order to be in the line up as a posistion player and pitch when its your turn you have to be a very very special talent.

The roster limitations will limit the amount of posistion players but not pitchers. The condensed schedule is going to require at the very least the same amount of arms than in the past. Its going to hurt the bull pen catcher posistion. No longer will teams be afforded the ability to carry a player to just bull pen catch. They will have to be able to actually play. And the posistion players are in the same boat. If you can not contribute you will not be around for long. Two way guys are very rare and they will continue to be rare. Why? Because there are not many guys that can do two things as well as these guys are capable of doing one.

Maybe these coaches dont like someone telling them they have to give 25%. Maybe they would like to give all their kids on the roster some money even if its not 25%? These new rules will take some kids out of college baseball. Its a trickle down effect. I do have a problem with the transfer rule. If your son signs with a D-1 school and for some reason wants to transfer to another D-1 program he has to sit out a year and he loses a year of elgibility. How is that fair? I can see having to sit out a year. But lose a year of elgibility? I dont think any rule that ultimately will limit the opportunities of kids to play college baseball is right. And the fact is every kid that would have played D-1 that now plays D-2 will cause another that would have played D-2 to play D-3. And every kid that would have played D-3 to now have no place to play.

Ive talked to several coaches. Some like part of it some dont like any part of it. None of them like all of it. But the rules are in place so we will see how it plays out. But there are many players across the country that are on the move and have moved already. You will see more players sign when drafted. And you will see the juco programs benefit from this more than anyone.
