well......the reason the bat is on the banned list is because they started testing the bats after breakin period instead of out of the wrapper. this change in testing procedure will put more than just combat on the banned list. fastpitch bats in mens slowpitch??? interesting.... i'm still curious as to what bat they are replacing it with and how does it measure up to the banned bat?? anyone??

    Combat web site

Got this off the Combat site:

THE LADY VIRUS VIRSP3 IS STILL APPROVED UNDER USSSA, ISA, NSA & ISF and can be used for play in these associations.

since ASA is the governing body for hs approval, and is basically used by most associations, i believe that most will follow suit as this is a safety issue.

on the ASA website, it states that NSA, ISA, USSSA and others will continue using the ASA certified bats and adhere to the ASA non approved list. the way it was written on the web site could be taken two different ways, phone call to ASA stated that it would not be used by any of the listed organizations.

this is true, called nsa and they will leave it on the approved list as long as the samples they are testing continue to come in under the rating....they stated testing is in progress at this time. appartently nsa now has its own testing unit.

talked to three of these organizations today, interesting views on this. one organization has had quite a few "altered" bats (about 75% in mens softball) and this year is now instituting a vigorus training program for its umps to be able to spot an altered bat, the second organization is retesting all bats in the same way that ASA is testing and the third has basically stated that the problem doesnt exist in their organization and they're not looking at anything as of right now.

As of this date, the Lady Virus is still legal in three of the four, and I am yet to hear from the fourth. Not too many years ago, everyone followed ASA's views on bats,as they tested them in their own lab. right now, some of these organizations base the approval of bats on the lab testing data supplied by the manufacturer?

two of the three people i talked today viewed composite bats as the main source of injury on the field and the main reason why insurance is going up every year in this sport.

these two organizations now impound the bat and the ball when an injury occurs and investigate the possibility of an altered bat or illegal ball..

learned a lot today, some great and knowledgable people in these organizations who's main focus is to keep everyone safe and have fun doing it.

    nice

Nice work, thanks for getting the "real story" it is very helpful for coaches who are being asked by parents what bats to buy, etc. What brands are for sure safe to buy for 2008!

You don't think an organization would put the $$ before the safety of the girls playing the game? I heard ASA is really putting a hurting on NSA, USSSA, and AAU in the number and quality of teams that are playing in their tournaments. ASA has been the biggest and best around the country for years, and has really grown in NC and SC over the past 2 years.

homer this is very true. it would seem that ASA is looking out for its members and others are not concerned.
