    Memories.......

The best memory of my son's baseball career comes from a few years of experience. My son was "drafted" in little league by a coach who was all about winning the league, Josh was decent but 10 years old and never played t ball or minor league or anything, just decided he wanted to play baseball. He got his 1 at bat and 6 outs every game and that was it, when he was 12 he made all stars. A few weeks ago his old little league coach came up to me and congratulated our family over Josh's decision, he said you know, I never thought that boy cared about baseball or would ever amount to anything on the baseball field. He said for 3 years I would look over at first base or in the batters box and see this big old goofy grin or laugh the whole time Josh was playing and he said I thought he just didn't care, but looking back, he just loved the game more than anything else and it was pure fun for him to be able to play.

I would love to say my favorite memory was a perfect game or no hitter or multi homer game, but more than anything I remember a little boy smililng like he stole something standing on first base. I hope that smile never leaves.

Everyday my son steps on the field he helps to create memories for me that will last for a lifetime. I have probably seen 99% of his games and about 95% of his practices. I try but I just can't stay away because I know one day it will all end. However, I am most proud of the man he is becoming. He will look adults in the eye and talk to them with confidence and repsect. He is one of the nicest kids you will ever meet. To this day, not once in his 16 years has he ever raised his voice to me or his mom. Still...I sure would like to see a homerun or two this year.

    We'll see!

Maybe at Providence? Or down the RF Line at Kell?

The season will be here before you know it!

Hard to believe when it's 31 degrees outside!

It will be over seemingly even quicker. Enjoy every moment - The memories are precious and the times spent with my son are so dear. I'm forever grateful for all the lessons the game has taught him, and the adversities he's had to overcome.

Those young Sophomores and Juniors will be a young men before you know it - I hope the Dads, Stop and Smell the roses!!

    good advice

I had a father of a celebrated baseball player ask me how my son and I have such a great relationship. I told him it was because I could make him laugh, I stopped "coaching" him in baseball and I learned to smell the :worry-rose:

Of course, he also looked up to me because I am such great :REDanceFdans002HL:

    Here is my opportunity.

Here are my proudest baseball moments (So far):

    Seeing my kid

    1) Strike out Madison Bumgarner at SC on 3 pitches w/ bases juiced
    2) Hit a clutch double off Sam Runion, after Runion was brought in to pitch to him to quell rally this year.
    3) Slamming a go ahead Granny against Alex Central
    4) Striking out Dustin Harrington
    5) Striking out Cam Duckworth
    6) Beat a Dusty Quartlebaum led Crest team in a complete game performance.
    7) Slamming a double off of Cleveland Indian draftee Chris Archer in a 2-hitter against the Dirtbags
    8) Progress like he did with the Charlotte Heat Showcase Baseball
    9) Getting the winning hit and beating Blaine Howell and ACR his junior year
10)Getting winning hit and save over 5th ranked Davie County in his junior year
    11) Blasting tying 3-run homer with team down to its last out against
    McDowell
12)Top of the ninth solo homerun v east burke to break a 1-1 tie.
    12) Winning pitcher and Grand Slam home run on Sr night vs. East Burke
    13) Get recruited by some great colleges and universities

Thanks for the chance to crow.

I know people can be reserved when tooting the horns of their kids, but this is the thread to do it in.

C'mon, don't be shy or reserved. Brag, cry, laugh...it doesn't matter. Let those proud memories escape to the pages of TBR.

As much as you are proud of your sons and their accomplishments, when they have a chance to read some of the things that you, parents, have said about them.......they will be just as proud of you.

    Alot of great memories

Years ago we were playing a not very good Southeast Halifax ball club at their place. I was coaching third and our dugout was on the first base line. I looked over in our dugout and I see a big commotion between my son who at the time was probaly 10 or 11 years old and one of our senior players. After the inning was over when I got back to the dugout I asked the boys what was going on. One of the players said "Jeff made Brett mad coach." I said "What did he do now." "Well Brett asked Coach Reynolds if he could hit left handed since we were killing these guys." "Then Jeff told him "You need to get a batting average from the right side first before you try to hit left handed." The guys in the dugout exploded with laughter and Brett went off on Jeff. There they were standing toe to toe giving it to each other. I told Brett "Brett he's 10 years old why are you going to let a 10 year old get under your skin like that. Brett said "Coach , you know how Jeff is. He is always riding me." I walk over to Jeff and say "Jeff your the bat boy leave the coaching to me. Jeff says "Dad , you know as well as I do he can't hit. Why is he going to try and hit left handed?" "What are we telling the team when guys start playing around like that during a game?" I swear that boy drove me crazy in that dugout sometimes.

The things I remember the most are the things like this. The big hits or homeruns to me are team things. I really dont see my son I just see one of our players doing something to help us win a game. But stuff like this , well these are the things I cherish the most. Great memories and alot of fun time spent together at the ball park.
