What can I say: ECU, that may have been the most important post ever made on TBR. I hope you won't mind but I have something special in mind for your post. It is something I believe everyone should know and keep in mind

OK T - I am going to do it - and I think I may regret it - but what the hey!

My eldest son went to a school in S.Carolina on a baseball scholly.
A nightmare. Redshirted as soon as he stepped on campus - much to all of our surprise. Played in the NECBL the following summer and did real well.
Despite my advice to leave after the first year - he stuck it out for a 2nd.
    Another total waste.

Played again in the NECBL and then got out.

    Transferred to a D-2

    1st year - real good.
2nd year there - here is a sampling of what he won.

    Conference Player of the Year
Hit .409 in one of the only wood bat leagues in the country
    Regional Player of the Year
    MVP of the Regional Playoffs
Broke the school's 30 year old records - single season - for hits - steals - runs scored - and a bunch of single game stuff.

    Trip to the NCAA Championships
1st team All Star - NCAA Championships
Led the Nation (D-2) in steals (64 of 67)
Led the Nation (All Divisions) in Steal %
    1st Team All-American
    ESPN Academic All-American

Drafted in the 16th round - even though about 10 teams told us he would go at around 10.

Won the NY Penn League Championship - led the team in about 5 offensive categories.

Then - he gets his first Topps/Bowman baseball card.

Thats a sampling of what happened the last year or so.

And the funniest one ever - playing in the NYCBL summer league in 2006 - he
    is the 1st team All-Star - 2B.

Last minute - the guy from his team who was entered into the Home Run Derby - hurts his hand. One of the coaches comes up to D - and says - We want your team to have a representative in this event. Will you do it?
He says why not - will be fun and he stands no chance against some of the monsters entered into the event.

Round 1 - he makes it through by hitting 5
Round 2 - he makes it through by hitting 4
Round 3 - he wins it with #4

    LOL

Heres the real message - DO NOT GIVE UP.
Alot of people gave up on him without ever letting him on the field. We will never know why - and at this point - we dont care. LOL

They were dead wrong - and they greatly underestimated him.

    And that is that.

    Because itsinthegame!!!

There is no feeling like someone telling you you can't do something and then you shove it in their face and prove to them you can.

We had a player much like your son leading up to hs. Couldnt make the local all star team. No one wanted him for a travel team. He got so discouraged coming up in baseball he didnt even come out for baseball his 9th grade year. He played with a chip on his shoulder. He had that burning desire to prove everyone wrong that didnt believe in him and everyone right that did believe in him. Those players are so special. Dont ever bet against a kid with that "look" in his eye's. Don't do it! All they do is beat your butt day in and day out.
