I hate to post about this, but it seems that the Hickory girls are running the score up to some extent on much lesser opponents. I know for a fact and have seen it first hand over the past few years. I know you cant tell a player to not score, but there comes a point in time to which you back away with the defense and not try to force turnovers when your leading by 50-60 or even 70 points. I have seen before that they will press almost the whole game with a lead that big as well

Agree! In softball when we play Hickory, we mostly keep our starters on the bench. This year, No Freaking Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe we can send them a message this way!

Disclaimer: In no way am I taking from the talented players on the HHS team. These ladies out play and out hustle most of their opponents, so the problem lies where?

I would have thought she (i mean they) would have got the message when they did not get coach of the year or player of the year (which i think should have been a hickory girl) last year even though they won the conference. I think the other coaches tried to send a message and it only made things worse for this year. Can not fault the girls, heck their 3rd stringers want to play, i just have a problem with starters being put back in with a 50 or 60 point lead. Wonder how it would be explained if a starter got hurt while up by 60

Obviously not condoning such behavior.....but sometimes actions speak louder than words.....If the starters are in the entire game, thats fine.....with no shot clock all the coach has to do is say....5 passes, 1 shot.....no need to shoot at will.....If i am an opposing girl and feel like I am being embarassed...then I make damn sure the girl driving at me trying to score feels it the next morning.

This is all on the coach though not the kids......If i were a opposing coach i would not promote it, but i would remind my players that we dont want to be embarassed on the floor.

One thing I've noticed in this league is also the gap between the great (Hickory) and the not so good (Patton, Hibriten, etc.).

Even a few years ago when Fred T. Foard was super good with Hickory, you'd have scores similar to this. But I echo the sentiments of everyone else on here, you can't blame the players.

Goes back to some stuff that was said in the football forum during the season. You can't just ask your third stringers not to score.

I do wish this league were more competitive. But I understand that Hibriten has disbanded their JV girls team. And you can't really lump Patton in here as a first year school, but still.

Coach Helms is a baller. I loved watching her school boys in PE class about 10 years ago.

    But really...

Who cares about softball except the players and their families?
