    OK coaches, when is the best time to start getting player profiles together? I know that college coaches can't talk to players during certain times or ages, so when is the best time to start putting something together ?

    Are you playing showcase?

    ...if so, having something to give to college coaches is a must. No matter what the players age is.

    Freshman year would be good! Kids are being recruited at a younger age. The sooner U get on their radar screen, the sooner they start to give signs as to their interest. Attend camps of schools U feel U may have interest as things are a little more informal while attending camps and U can get a little more information. Oh forgot U can also gauge your feeling on the coach. Never ask a college coach how your daughter could fit into her team or if your daughter could play a position for her. Stay with general questions while dealing with coaches. Leave pointed questions to your HS or travel coach, at least until U are sitting down with a coach in the senior year talking turkey! :gossip:

    Agree with Marlin about the showcase angle, but it should be a team thing not an individual thing. As far as individual i have been to two camps that this was discussed at including "Pops" this past weekend. The coach from Mars Hill said to not send anything until they had played AT LEAST 1 VARSITY season. If they are playing JV don't even bother. Sheri Kemph says to make a list of about 40 colleges in your freshman year and email them. Don't expect anything but a questionarre, fill it out asap and send it back. Then update them on when you're playing showcases and where. Do NOT expect any contact with any or them unless you are at one of their camps. They cannot contact a recruit until June 12?(D11) and July 1(D1.) The summer before their soph. and junior years are the most important. Constantly update the schools you are interested in as to what showcases you're playing in and how you did afterwards (especially if they were not there) or thank them for coming to watch you play (whether they are there to see you or not). We did Ashley's individual flyer the spring of her Soph. year and sent them out. Most schools were done with 08s by early last summer and were already working on 09 and 10. Two major things are making your introductory emails and videos stand out. These coaches get 100's a day and they sometimes just pile right through them so it needs to be something that stands out but don't be overbearing or arrogant. Don't been embarassed of marketing yourself. If a school is interested by the summer before your junior year they'll let you know. And don't give up. The coach from Mars Hill said that if there is a kid who wants to play college ball there is a home for them somewhere. Good luck and if you have anymore questions please feel free to PM me. and lean on Rodney heavy down there. There aren't too many better at getting young ladies placed than him.

    Unless you are at a camp.....

    .....PARENTS CAN ONLY HAVE 3 TALKS with a possible future coach. It can be as innocent as "how'd the Tar Heel QB play yesterday". KNOW what you can and cannot do!!!! Camps/hitting lessons/pitching lessons on campus are great venues to listen to a coach. If He/She is realy interested in a DD, they'll make SURE you'll know. Good Luck!

    Not too proud....

    Great pointers guys! I am not too proud to say I have so much to learn and feel I need to help ALL the girls on our team(as well as others) put something together pretty soon. Feel free to send me any info at all either by pm or e mail. Someone also told me to take "honest" stats.

    Thanks,

    Nathan (e mail---> [email protected])

    ya know, this is what braves was trying to get people to offer testimony about for this board rocks. the kinda things we have learned and we have all learned a butt load about getting our kids recruited. up until a year or two ago, most though you had to take your kid to a recruiting service.....most of us found out different with the help of a few knowledgable coaches and a curious few who like to share their knowledge.

    on the subject of videos, no music, short and sweet, something perhaps catchy, but different views on hitting, fielding, throwing, running, sliding. 8-10 minutes long, none longer. if they want to see more, they'll ask. show your best abilities first, hustle the whole video.

    $500 for a video is......

    ...nutsy! Cmon, if a DD can't email a coach local enough to have an interest enough to come see her play, then that video means squat! theres bookoos of D2 D3 teams in SC, NC, VA., etc that KNOW who the players are. They are the ones ready willing and able to snatch up the TALENTED kids who somehow fall thru the cracks of D1. ( Not that D1 is the end of all ends ). But if a kid will show an interest in a program, a REAL interest, they will check the kid out! Videos to me seem to apply when its important to show a kids strengths to a coach who is far enough away that for said coach to see said kid play is not possible. Don't get me wrong here TBR, I'm not saying to NOT do a video, I'm saying that there might be a better use of Dads money to get the results one is looking for. JMO.....Glad I'm done in that arena. Good luck all!
