    I'm chompin at the bit and ready to go. I needed an excuse to go watch more softball games, and this just might be it. think of it, videos, still pictures of games year around coverage, live tournament scores....am i dreamin or is this about to happen????

    Being the only high school in Boone helps Watauga with media coverage. The Watauga Democrat has done a pretty good job of covering all the high school sports including softball. The same goes for WATA with Mike Kelly who actually was given an award by the NCCA this past weekend for his high school coverage. Watauga made the playoffs for the first time since high school went fastpitch and the second game of the playoffs was broadcast live as Watauga played Crest.

    ....let down TBR with a commentary?, never! I'll have to say that for the most part the N & O HS section is trying to include as much about teams in all sports, and gender. Yes, there does seem to be a slant towards a certain area and their teams. I'm not bailing out here, but the N & O is a statewide paper that will be damned if they do and damned if they don't. The Raleigh area coverage for the most part is lacking, the surrounding county teams do appear to get for press from time to time, but maybe thats because the N & O owns local newspapers in these areas, and has staff writers who have already done some legwork to provide a story in the local paper that is also very interesting to us in Raleigh. And, I know for a fact, Like it or not, good journalism or not, its up to ALL of the HS coaches to provide factual info to the editor. You can't expect press coverage if the HS folks don't get involved.

    Oh my......

    You sound like Hilliary...... don't be so PC.....

    Reporting of women's sports in respect to scores, stories, etc. is not a priority for the N&O....

    Thanks Marlin for the commentary. I knew you would come across with a fine opion! You are correct, The N&O does a decent job of coverage. We always call in our box scores. What, I think people would like to see is a feature article on a player or team or the sport in general. I have never read an article about the N.C. State program or the Meredith program, or the PEACE program ( great as it is) Wouldn't it be great to read about Coach C.D.and his program, his coaching and playing experiences.


    ( you may not know who i am but you can probably figure it out without to much thought!!)

    Female sports coverage......

    ....in the N & O is not bad. Does it appear to Duke or Wake or NCSU folks that this paper is biased to UNC? Well, if you listen to them the answer will be yes. Is the N & O biased? Or better, what paper is not biased in some degree? Liberal v. Conservative, UNC v. ACC maybe. But as this thread goes in a negative direction.......why not get up off your butt, and make something good out of here! Contact your local or state paper folks and speak up for what you believe is just. Be cool, and they will listen.
