Knee savers- Good, bad or it doesn't matter?

I have heard some say that they make a catcher lazy, slow to block balls. Then also heard many say they are the best thing ever for catchers as they help reduce stress on the knees and help reduce fatigue which reduces injuries.

    Please discuss.......................................

    Individual Attitude!

My DD started with them for the knee strain relief, however, she found that she wasn't on them much and didn't want to carry the extra bulk. Will cause a catcher to be lazy if this character trait is in the individual. Like any tool proper use brings benefit.

My dd has them and sits on em when giving signals but gets up when receiving the pitch. If the catcher is sitting on them when receiving the pitch, it does slow the POP time down. So she is up all the time, with runners on or not.

    My Thoughts...

I wear them to give signals and to rest on when there are no runners on. But as soon as a runner gets on you won't catch me on them after I signal for the pitch. I do think they can make catchers lazy if you use them when there runners on. But my knees don't kill me after a day at the field like they used to.

You are starting to see them more and more even in college. Cometfan has great pics of Abbey vs Catawba in the Next Level forum under softball and both catchers have them. I do agree that if the catcher is lazy, she will become lazy. Tell them to receive signals and rest, then pop up and go to work! No runners on, not a big deal. Runners on, go to work no questions asked.***Also, keep a back up catcher for laziness to go away*** Players will push harder and work harder if they know someone else can and will fill in....just my 2cents

Just to let you know from a catcher's point of view, the do what they are called, they save your knees. I do understand the laziness aspect but if your are disciplined enough to stay off them when your actually catching the ball, they are no problem. I used them when im giving pitches or occasionally when nobody is on base but when someone is or the pitch is coming, im up.

I think your comment is unfair to those catchers who are disciplined enough to wear the knee savers and still get the job done! Not all catchers are lazy just because they wear knee savers!
