This past weekend at the NSA coaching clinic Sheena Hollar from LR said she recruited players that played more than 1 sport. I don't think you have to stick to 1 sport .JMO My DD plays BB to stay in shape for Softball. She loves BB,but her ticket into college is softball with the grades also. The most important part of that statement.

    Sorry brother,

Well, well, well found a topic that Guru and I don't agree on.
My opinion is this: Ashley played 4 years of softball and volleyball in high school and Morgan plays both as well. Ashley's time as a volleyball player kept her active during the off-season and helped her with things such as footwork and DEFENSE and of course communication which is a little more prevelant by definiton than softball. (proximitiy of so many players in such a small area-no one send me stuff on how much communication is in softball i get it but communication is absolutely vital to volleyball). She knew she wasn't going to get a schlorship playing volleyball (vertically challenged) but she enjoyed it and every softball coach i have ever spoked to says step away from the game for 1-2 months every year.
Now Morgan is a different story. She also plays JO volleyball and has been told she is talented enough to play it in college which she has considered and thought about trying to do both(backed off of that a little now). But how can i as a parent make her choose between the 2. Softball has always come first and that was her decision but i can't and won't take that enjoyment from either of them. Don't we as parents want to encourage their dreams no matter how improbable they are. And who am i to say that she couldn't do both. They hear enough negativity from the world as it is. It's high school let them have some fun, life gets serious enough soon enough for us all. JMHO

    NO PROBLEM !!!

Hey no problem BRO, but the chances of her playing volleyball and softball in college unless she is one of the 1800 SAT + students are slim to none. I'm telling you high school and college demands are not the same. High School does not adequately prepare for the college life, it is a different world once you get to the next level...like I said before " To Each His Own ", and if Morgan wants to play volleyball along with softball that's her prerogative. Hey I like to agree to disagree it's part of life..

Lots of good points here based on lots of experience. But with all that has been said, my cut is this: If my DD wants to play multiple sports in HS and can keep her grades up, that's what she will do. Like we always say, it's about her, not me. Now, with that behind us, a whole new assessment may have to be made once the move to college is made. But as for HS, she wants to be a girl that plays more than one sport well, that's what she'll be. Right or wrong depends on your particular perspective. That's my opinion and as always, I know exactly what that's worth on the open market. :dizzy2:

I can't tell if this post is about playing mult. sports in HS or college, if college there will be very few that will be able to handle two sports in college, if in high school, I just visited a rooster of a D! school and out of the seventeen players listed only six did not play mult. sports. and one played two sports in college, volleyball and softball.
So yes it can be done, it is just really difficult.....

    Basketball SUCKS!

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I will say that this has been the most frightening experiences her dad and I have ever had. I personally have still not recovered from it and cry everytime I think about my only child suffering a seizure on the gym floor because a referee let a game get out of hand. Her dad and I had a conversation with her the night before regarding basketball and injuries when softball is her game. I talked to her before this game and told her that softball would soon be starting and to please not play so hard that she would get hurt. Anyone that knows her would know that she can not play without giving 100% so my words fell on deaf ears. The seizure and the doctor's words frightened her enough to put her basketball career behind her and we are thrilled. If she wants to stay in shape for softball I will gladly enroll her at the fitness center. This episode also frightened all of the kids who witnessed it and I hope and pray that there were some lessons learned from it. I know that there are kids who want to play multiple sports and that is all well and good but this has turned me against the game of basketball forever. I understand that she can get hurt doing anything but when there are adults present that can and should take control of the situation that is what they need to do. Since there are adults that let things go too far in basketball I feel much better that my child has decided to hang up her basketball shoes. Again thanks for your concerns and if you think a game is out of hand don't wait on someone else to take control, take it upon yourself to put a stop to it.

Our Sting family was there immediately for Megan and we feel so fortunate to be associated with such a great group of people. We love you all. We look forward to seeing everyone on the softball field!
