    Good Viewpoint.......

......uttered by Guru! He's right that maybe Coastal and other schools in SC rosters don't have a roster that is proportional to the very talent rich base of recruits who are in NC and SC. To me, its called ignorance! Yep, bring it on coaches, prove to to us at TBR, that your budget and its RESULTS by recruiting out of your region makes you a better team and keeps you a job. Good luck when the NC/SC girls who ya'll blew off as "local talent", rock your butts!

I would venture that if Title 9 hadnt come along, then college softball would be even further behind or even more non-existant as would many other womans' sports unless they shared facilities with men's sports. Title 9 helped to promote woman's sports. Do you want to pay $25/ticket to see a college softball game to help pay for the sport?

    Regarding recruitment:
Could the in-state vs out-of-state tuition costs at state schools have any bearing on recruitment? When the cost difference to attend a UNC school can be from $5k to $10 more for out-of-state, it makes sense to stretch your scholarship money over in-state kids if the talent exists in-state.

Private schools do not have differences in tuition for in or out of state students so they are not looking for instate kids first.

I think, correct me if I'm wrong......

....that the NCAA has adopted a "national in-state policy". I. E. when it comes to the cost to attend a D1 university, in-state v. out-of-state is not an issue when athletics are in the mix. The NCAA is apparently not interested in how much $ it costs to go to UNC,ECU,UCLA,etc., their position in this is ....11 1/2 scholarships in baseball and softball. JMO.

Thanks, I did not know that.

So if you get 1/2 of a scholarship to a D1, would your balance due be based on in-state rates?(Is that what you mean?)

    As far as I know.....

....thats how the NCAA has it set up. I could be wrong, and I'm wrong alot, but in this case, my understanding is that if say kid A comes to UNCW from Kansas, why should the UNCW budget get rocked with out of state tuition just to improve the program possibly with this kid. Worth checking out, no doubt. I'll look into it now, and update in a few posts.

    Not positive

I think the out of state kids to cause a bigger hit to the College scholarship budget. I know some SC and VA schools have offered in state tuition cost to out of state kids and I know many coaches seek as many in-state kids to save money for that out of state superstar, pitcher, catcher SS.
