Looks like Draughn High

    will be in the Southern Piedmont 1A/2A conference for all sports except football for the 2008-2009 season. They have tentatively scheduled 4-5 varsity football games with schools from that conference who had open dates. Hopefully, Draughn can find 5-7 games with other schools who have open dates to fill out their schedule. I guess we would be like a college team who goes to a new conference but can't compete for a championship their first year. Still, it would be better than playing only a year of JV ball like Patton had to do last year. the Southern Piedmont Conference consists of :

    Lincolnton
    East Lincolnton
    West Lincolnton
    North Lincolnton
    Bessemer City
    Cherryville
    Highland Tech
    Challenger

    That is, if they have enough to make a football team. Freedom is larger than East Burke as 4A schools with Patton, splitting off Freedom, only having a JV team. I dont see Draughn having a team, but then again - anything can happen coming from eastern Burke County.
