Guru, statements like this may get you put back in Broughton!!!!!!:N1Lol16:

OK, It is a nice place and Morganton is really nice. Lived there for 6 years and still have family there.

I was there during construction and just after it opened. They were saying that beside the concession stand they were going to have a room where you could buy stuff like supplies or suveniers (sp?). Does anyone know if they opened it yet and what do they have in there?

Shop was open last summer, and I must say it was well stocked and prices were very competive with any sporting good store.....

Great day!!! Huge crowds, thanks to all who came. Plenty of softball in Morganton today. 19 teams were all well represented at the Catawba Meadows Complex, pretty good weather and some really good games for the first week of the season.

I have no idea on some scores or how teams did other than us. Please post some results from your games.

    Thanks again to everyone..

Nice job Thad and company for a great day at the fields. We were not in it, but came by to support fellow TB players and conference rivals. Lots of really good play today and the best fields around!

    Teams

Any updates on how teams did? Who were some of the better teams? Was Science Hill the best team at the park? Any updates

    Lots of quality teams

were playing in this event. Science Hill has a quality squad, as does Ardrey Kell, Freedom, Hopewell, Weddington and Providence. Not sure of all the scores of the games, but I do know that Hopewell went undefeated, and beat Science Hill in the second game 5 to 4. Three of the Science Hill runs were unearned. Hopewell also beat Crest 4 to 0, and Watauga 3 to 1 (this game Hopewell had nearly all of their starters sit out).

Did not catch the score of the Ardrey Kell vs. Science Hill game, as it was the last game of the day, but when I left, Ardrey Kell was already beating them 4 to 0 after just one inning. If the score held up (as I believe it would with Kalie Lang toeing the rubber for AK), Ardrey Kell would have also finished the day undefeated in their 3 games as well.

Kind of hard to judge the level of each team, since some coaches were intermingling subs or second and third string pitchers. Also, with only a one hour time limit, most games were only lasting about 4 innings max. The short time limit is definitely something that I hope would be extended going forward at this event. There seemed to be a lot of down time between games (20 min.). Probably could have played each game with 1 hr. 15 min. limit, and then when game was over, get the next two teams on the field and play, instead of waiting around, or allowing each team to practice on the field for 15 mins. I think the most important thing about scrimmages is to get your pitchers and batters as many reps as possible. The Forbush scrimmages which are being held this coming Saturday, are going to have a 1 hr. 30 min. time limit, which should allow plenty of time to maybe even complete a game, or play 6 innings on average.

All in all, it was a great day in Morganton at Catawba Meadows. Nice facility, and as it matures, will only become better. Thanks to Thad Fox of Freedom for organizing this event again this year.
