    This is simple...

Only the players thought to be the elite few by the coaches putting on the State Games will be affected anyway so everyone else just go to Columbia and play your hearts out!

    From a college coaches perspective

I am not going to get in this debate between high school and travel ball. It is no secret that we recruit primarily from the travel ball circuit, but high school ball can still be important if it is the right situation.

The only thing I want to add to this is....The Dynamites Tournament is a big one, and receives a lot of coverage. But it is not the ONLY tournament we go to. I personally will be at the Cardinals Early Bird, The Dynamites, ASA State, the Hot Times and the Cardinals Tournament in July before nationals. It is usually the same teams in all of these tournaments and we get to see them multiple times. For most of us, all we need to see a player is a couple of times.

Personally, I think the State Games is a great event for the kids. It may not receive as much attention from the college coaches as far as attendance, but I cannot tell you how much feedback I got from contacts I have about players there. Even though I wasn't in attendance last year, I knew about what happened and who played well. So even if we aren't there, we still know what's going on. If a kid is honored with making the team there and they want to go, then they should go. If they don't, then don't go. But they and the TB coaches should know that we will see them elsewhere. One tournament will not make or break their chances. And if these TB coaches truly have the kids best interest at heart, and their kids want to go play in the state games, then they should let them go and do their best to put a team on the field and not worry about going 6-0 at the Dynamites since we college coaches could care less about wins and losses and care all about the fundamentals of the player.

    Sorry....

I guess I did get into the debate by the end of my post.....

Everyone just needs to relax and let the kids play ball where they want to.

    I'm done....enjoy the rain!

softball4ever- now you know I like you, but do you know anything about the State Games? The Junior State Games features 8 regions with 20 players per team. Since the majority of players are juniors, that is 160 HS juniors competing against each other with players from around the state. And you think that is a few? The Junior State games will become the most well attended college recruiting event in the future in NC. and here is why?

By June, most colleges have already filled their needs for the coming year. They are targeting the junior class for their next group of signees. And come July they will be able to have their first contact with those DD's.

Now look at it from their viewpoint. They can go to a showcase tournament and have to weed through the teams and players participating. They may put a sophomore or a freshman on their radar, but their attention is on the juniors.

    or

they can spend their limited budget on a tournament that features talented juniors only. Where they get a chance to watch them go through a pro style workout on scouting day. Where they get an opportunity to gauge their athleticism through arm strength, bat speed and foot speed and then get to spend four days watching them compete against other extremely talented players.

The coaches are going to go where the talent is and where they get the most bang for their buck. Is that the State games?...not yet, but you only have to attend the baseball side and get a sampling of what it will become. The Biggest showcase event in our state.

C'mon now Braves! It HAS to be the coaches, other parents, other players, other teams coaches, assistant coaches, somebodys uncle or sister or brother or grandfather = Politics. It's NEVER the player.
