I have a 10 yr old DD pitcher that uses face protection when she pitches and plays 3rd base. She will continue to use this piece of equipment. I believe that even the best pitchers will miss there spot sometime and you know what could happen. I have not seen many older girls use this head protection. What do HS and College coaches think about a pitcher using the head protection? Would you look at her different than another pitcher with the same skills? Do you think it will ever be mandatory safety equipment for infield players?

    Believe This Or Not !!!

I can't remember the team that I saw but every player had on a "GAME FACE" except the right fielder...TRUE STORY !!! I think this should be a decision of the kid / parent if the kid is young. I am not here to give my opinion on rights and wrongs about protection, but each situation should be looked upon individually !! Everybody will not agree on one or the other !!:smash:

What type of face protection are you talking about????

    Maybe one of these...
They could get this and paint it the school colors.

I agree with Guru on this one...

I think it should be up to the player when proper age to make the decision, before that be a parent and make the decision for them!

    From a college coach

I let our kids choose what they want to wear and not wear. Most of our freshman now were facemasks when batting by their choice. One of the kids we signed in the fall has worn a facemask when pitching. Whether or not a kid wears a facemask means nothing to me. If it makes them more confident and less scared, then wear it.

It's the kid's choice and all I want are the best players period....facemask or no facemask.

Sometimes an ounce of prevention has nothing to do with fear :)

Coming up shortly here, as soon as her growth plates are fully closed, my dd will face major facial reconstruction surgery to rebuild her sinus passages, her septum and her nose itself. Furthermore, within the next 6 months we are looking at braces for a year. In both cases, a direct hit to the face could be potentially disastrous. So, when dd asked me this year about getting a protective mask for 3B so she could "get used to wearing it" before the surgeries and braces, I agreed.

DD could care less if she gets hit by a ball - but she surely has come to care if she has to undergo surgery again due to a fluke hit. So for 6 months after surgery and while she is in braces, the mask will be her best friend.

It is mandatory on myDD's TB team for the Pitcher, 3B, & 1B to wear them. With these composite bats they have to have protection. I dont ever want to say "I wish I made her wear a mask".

What age group is your TB team? If your DD pitches she should be aware that you throw outside it could come back at ya..... Own the inside of the plate.

This is the reason for my questions. There is no dought as a parent that she will wear the GAME FACE. I only hope when she is older she will continue to wear the GAME FACE or some protection when she is pitching.
