Not sure how much everyone has been paying attention to the rumors coming out of Oklahoma City concerning ASA Bat standards and new enforcement guidelines and standards.

Most of the college coaches were fortunate to get the info at the NFCA convention in Las Vegas last December.
Bats were tested at all 3 NCAA National Championships ( D1, D2, D3) and the results were disappointing. Every bat tested was way over the 98 mph threshold. For more info, visit www.nfca.org Check out the NFCA National Convention minutes.

ASA appears to be getting tough on this subject.
ASA adopted for 2009 the 98 mph exit speed standard, as it has been for the past several years. The difference from previous years to 2009 and beyond for all bat manufacturers is that the 98 mph exit speed is the highest it can be during any time that the bat is in service. This means the bats cannot go over 98 mph after the breakend period

Manufacturers have been told to incorporate methods in the manufacturing process to keep the bat from going beyond the 98 mph threshold.

I spoke with 3 reps this week ( Louisviile, Easton, and Wilson) and all have confirmed that they have stopped manufacturing the present 08 bats and are working on adapting to the 09 specifications..

They expect the bats to perform around 70-80 mph out of the wrapper next year.. They are experimenting with metal sleeves inside the bat chamber and hard fibers to keep the bat from exceeding the 98 mph level after break in...

This is gonna effect all composite bats in the future......

    Now the good news....
All bats that carry the ASA 2004 homeplate stamp will be grand-fathered in until 2012 unless they are designated for further testing.

There are a bunch of bats that are gonna be knocked out and banned for championship play very soon...

Be careful what you buy...Ask questions..

So in your opinion, would it be wise or unwise to run out and buy an 08 Easton synergy SCN8B. My daughter is needing one and we have been searching high and low for the 06 model but to no avail, they are just all gone. That's what she's been using but it's close to needing replacing. Is it, or the 08 going to be allowed or not? Thanks for any info you can supply me on the subject.

    just a thought dad......

......why not take your DD to a local batting center, and have her test a couple of the demos that are on the market? who knows, she may like one or another. i know hands down the importance of a kids "feel" of her bat. no problem there. but, as times and equipment regulations crap change, it might well be better to join than fight so to speak. i have no idea what is or will be legal this or next year, but i do know that it ain't the bat thats hitting, its the batter. jmo. good luck.

First of all, there is no 08 Easton synergy SCN8B.
The SCN8B is a 2007 bat. (blue and silver composite -10)
The 2008's will not be out until late summer.

Stick with the manufacturers that are established....
the 06 models are gone, and so are most of this years
These bats will be grand-fathered until 2012.
These bats are gonna be in high demand when they are all gone, and the
new summer of 08 bats hits the market. Most of the colleges were made aware of this in December, and stocked up on the last manufacturing runs.

Remember, most of the issues deal with the COMPOSITE bats..
which is gonna include Louisville, Easton, Miken, Wilson, Combat,
    Rip-it, Mizuno, Worth

Traditional metal alloy manufacturers ( Anderson... your welcome Cheeze)
are further along with devolpment and technology, when it comes to controlling exits speed as the bats mature...

Look for the other manufacturers to return to the metal allow base...
Worth used to make real hot fastpitch bats with the EST9's, Quads, etc..

The point of the post is this... They are not making anymore Stealth's, Synergys, Catalyst. Combat Virus's, Miken Halo's.. that are gonna perform at the 2006 -2007 levels. We are not even sure what the name of the bats are gonna be... but their out of the wrapper exit speeds are gonna be between 70-80 mph....

If you are gonna get one, now is the time...

    Choose wisely!!

Go to EBAY == and search for Rolling Machine

I also heard that this new standard included mid season (or mid life) testing of bats to ensure that they are not exceeding the standard. And if a bat is found to exceed the standard then all the bats of that model would be disqualified.

The intention is to make the sport safer. It would seem that any gimmicks such as bat rolling are intended to circumvent this and - in my opinion - is equivalent to altering a bat.

    Your correct...
One out of the wrapper will exceed the 98 MPH after break-in...
If it is rolled and doctored, you have a lethal weapon...

I don't think the fastpitch game has a major problem with the bat altering(rolling of bats) that occurs in the slowpitch men's game...

Problem is, the men discovered the fastpitch bats...
The Lady Virus bat that was recently disqualified was very popular with the men's major slowpitch player because of the performance and incredible bat speed they could generate... That's why the 33" and 34"
were so hard to find... the slow pitch boys were swinging them.

EBAY now gives you the ability to buy a machine, to roll the bat.
( see the post 2 above)

Check out the sales pitch...Guy is proud that the sanctions are sueing him
    See his quote below...

"Most players know that I have a lot of experience at making softball bats as hot as they can be. Heck I am one of only two bat doctors that made bats so hot I got sued by one of the sanctions and some major bat companies"

This is gonna be a problem and cause allot of frustration....
    But it is coming!!!!!!!

    Our world has gone crazy...

Obviously helping people cheat can make you rich.....

This guy has sold over 150 of these since August at
    approx $375.00-$400.00 each....
check out his seller ratings and feedback.

    That's approx $60,000.00 in sales....

He needs to stand at third base and let someone smoke
    linedrives at him..........

    I AGREE WndMillR ..

And...for every machine he sold not just one bat was rolled. Unfortunately this then creates over a 100 junior BAT DOCTORS that are rolling hundreds of bats for profit..... and the guy brags Patent Pending ..
