    Great news!

That is great news to hear. I hated to hear of someone missing out on a big year. Best of luck to our neighbors from the north.

the reason not many tried out was because of the work outs we had in the off season. this was the first year we had them. if you did not play a fall or winter sport then you had to go to so many work outs. i'm glad of this. it has helped me become stronger and in shape for this season. some of us were just to lazy to go and don't won't to make them up in order to play. i think this helped our team by getting rid of the players who were not serious about playing and showing the coaches who are serious about the team and sport.

Off season workouts are "open to all and required of none." You cannot require an athlete to attend off season workouts and you cannot deny them the opportunity to tryout because they didn't attend those off season workouts. I agree those workouts are very important to getting your season off to a good start, but you can't hold it against them if they choose not to participate. Good luck this season!

nobody was denied the opportunity to try out. the only requirement was if you did not make up so many missed work outs you could not play until you did. this makes it fair to the ones you really won't to play that might not be as good as the ones who think they can be lazy and walk in and start with out doing nothing. when they make up the work outs then they have a chance to play until then they can practice with the team. on our team you have to earn playing time, which i think is a good thing.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but to my understanding what was done is a violation of ncassa regulations. by having to make up the missed off season workout they were made to be required and that is not allowed by state rules.

if your offseason workouts are sitting on the couch, your spring workouts will be using the same thing you used in the winter, your butt on the bench until you catch up with the others. not a bad plan!

You are correct! It is a violation to require off season workouts or to attach a consequence to not attending those workouts. I hope no one from the NCHSAA office reads these boards or South is looking at a violation!

That kinda of thought process would get you a NCAA violation
