Anyone recognize this complex???? We are in the very early stages of planning a new complex in our area and I have been asked to make some suggestions to the "powers to be" (people with the $$$) This complex is a nice place to start, just was wondering if anyone knew where it was.

Also, please give me some suggestions on what makes a complex a "good one" where we all enjoying playing. I have some ideas from the places the Cardinals have played at around the country, but would like to get thoughts and ideas from other tbr softball folks.

    softball complex........

......... and what a complex that is! Looks familiar, but can't quite place it.

If you are looking for ideas, a wheel seems to be the way to go. Best use of land. Make the fields special..... step down dugouts maybe. Bullpens on each side of each field... ample warm-up areas, batting cages or places for front toss. Picnic areas, Make it friendly for everyone. Have concessions but allow people to bring what they want to. Make it a place the girls will enjoy and want to come back to...jmo

Some of the best complexes I've been to recruiting and playing are:

Freedom Florence - only the 5 field complex (but need bigger dugouts)
    Citizens Park - Aiken, SC
South Commons Softball Complex - Columbus, GA
Moyer Sports Complex - Salem, VA
Aurora Sports Complex - Aurora, CO

There are always a bunch of great ones, but these are some of the best I've been to.

    Ripken Facility?

Isn't that the complex that was designed by Cal Ripken or something like that? It was on TBR last year when folks were talking about nice ball parks. Bmac, I thought it was you or Guru who put it out there.....

    Ripken in Myrtle Beach?.....

......if that is what you are saying, I'm afraid its not the facility in the pictures above. Nice, Nice, Nice arena down in SC. I remember that all of the fields were covered in "astroturf" with only the pitchers circle and homeplate/battersbox manicured in dirt. Also, cool warmup lanes for pitchers/catchers.

I love the "special needs" field down there. Took one of our older travel ball teams there to watch them play. I know it changed my kids whole idea about the game.
