    My Son's Season Opener

I had the pleasure of watching my son's team play their season opener yesterday [Knightdale @ Wakefield]. Great ballgame all the way around! My "loveable lefty" was not so stellar at the plate 0-4, 1k, 1ROE, 1SB, 1 run scored - but as he said, "we won!" He took the mound in the bottom of the 4th and pitched 4 innings of shutout baseball. I wish I had his stat line but I was way too busy being "just dad" and not "coach". The joy on his face when he struck out the last batter to end the game was "PRICELESS". As the parents for both teams congratulated me - I reminded them that it was not me out there, it was him! Congratulate the kid! Although "dad" is very proud, it was my "loveable lefty" who delivered. By the way, Knightdale won 6 - 3.

I just received his stat line from his coach: Nate- 4 IP, 5 K's, 2 BB, 3 hits, 0 runs

    great post cbsconsult

I have found that being "the dad" is indeed more priceless than anything. And your son already shows great make-up by not dwelling on the 0-4 but relishing the team's big win. When a program has every player with this mindset, special things happen!

    Today, my youngest son . . .

. . . made the team. My freshman son, Christian, made the Varsity roster at Hargrave Military Academy. As you can imagine, I am extremely proud of him. But for more than the baseball stuff. He is maintaining an A average, learning to live away from his parents in a military environment and is growing into a wonderful young man. I am truly blessed.

My oldest is playing in college and my youngest is 7 and he is playing little league this year. Even though I don't have one playing today that Friday afternoon high school baseball fever is calling me to visit a ballfield near me. There are 3 games in town today so I have to choose one. My oldest has 4 games this weekend but maybe the "boss lady" at home won't get too upset at me for going to a high school game.

Monday my little one got in the car to go home from his 1st practice and said "that was the best practice ever". I think he is hooked too.

    Wrong side of the plate

My son pitched in his first ever Varsity game last night. He pitched 5 innings, struck out 8, walked 2, allowed 2 hits and no runs. He also went 2/4 at the plate and had an outfield assist in the 6th. It sure seemed strange seeing him on that side of the plate, but I do love to watch him play no matter what the position.

    A Hard Game

It's a hard game. The frustrations and failures are necessary if we are to enjoy the successes and appreciate all the work it took to get them.

    As they say.............."you're alright!!"
