4A East Predictions

Laney @ Athens Drive
Prediction: Athens Drive
Athens Drive has not lost since the Glaxo Tournament. Their best player (ECU recruit) who had missed the first month of the season recovering from an ACL injury got healthy and it has been good times ever since. I admit I don't know anything about Laney other than their record but I do think: Triangle Basketball > Beach Basketball and Athens Drive is at home.

Northern Durham @ Wakefield
Prediction: Wakefield
If Wakefield plays the way they did the first two rounds (putting up 50 points in the first half of each), they are going to be hard to beat. Northern Durham has weapons, upset Garner, and will be one of the few teams that can challenge Wakefield on the boards. Two years ago Northern Durham beat Wakefield at Wakefield in the sectional final. Until somebody beats Wakefield, they have to be favored.

Millbrook @ Apex
Prediction: Millbrook
Tough game to call. Millbrook beat Apex twice early in the season. Millbrook has a lock down defense that gives teams fits. They have trouble scoring though, especially against zones. The Apex coach is not known for playing zone. Apex has one of the toughest players you will ever see and she leads her young teammates by example. Many a mom and dad has left an Apex game and said “If only my daughter had the heart and desire of that player”. Even though Apex is at home, I am going to give the edge to Millbrook based off of their two early-season wins and their success in the tougher conference.

Hillside @ Westover
Prediction: Hillside
A game more worthy of a regional game rather than a sectional final. Hillside already won at Hillside so they must have confidence they can do it again. Westover only beat Broughton by two in the second round. Were they looking ahead? Based on their struggle against Broughton, Wakefield’s easy victory over 71st, and Apex’s upset at South View, I think that (for this year) Triangle Basketball > Fayetteville Basketball

 

Here are my predictions for tonight...


West Charlotte wins by 16...Butler keeps it close through the half but too much talent on the court for West Charlotte, they pull away. This will be a low-scoring drawn out battle between two city teams.


McDowell by 7...The Lady Titans will have a battle tonight against a team that has some athletes. Washington will have her usual productive outing but I think one of the sophomores will have a huge night, just a gut feeling.

Grimsley by 17...JM Robinson has had a good run through the 1st two rounds but that comes to an end tonight. Grimsley wins fairly easy.


North Davidson by 4...This one is a toss up for me. Both teams have a chance at making a regional due to being in a wide open portion of the bracket. This game comes down to the final minute of play.

 

Shelby @ Mitchell

I hope Mitchell can pull this one off. I know that all of Mitchell County will be at the game tonight. This is a tuff place to play.

TC Roberson @ Forestview

This should be a great game and the winner could be state champs.

East Meck @ McDowell

Hopefully the Lady Titans will play like they did in the 4th qt against Page. I have not seen E. Meck this year so I don't know what to expect tonight.
