    2 Different Ailments

Taking 2-0 because you weren't mentally prepared is something that can be addressed.

Taking a lousy 2-0 swing and getting jammed is another.

Some teachers are so focused on contact, contact, contact that the kids learn not to miss.

Big Rips with a 2-0 count means just that......BIG RIPS! Fouling it straight back is a beautiful thing. It means I just missed hitting a bomb to CF!

    Braves...

Well - I am helping my brother-n-law with his program up here in Greensboro. We are 1-1. Played much better in a 3-0 loss than we did in a 10-7 win. I feel like we have a chance to be solid, maybe a little better. But like it is with most teams, we cannot afford to "take days" off mentally or physically. We have some talent, but not the kind where you can just show up and beat people.

    Watch the game and learn

Players should understand where they hit in the order , how they were pitched in the first ab and how they reacted to how they were pitched , the quality of the guy you are facing , and how the other guys are being pitched. When your hitting in the 8 hole and you work a 2-0 count what do you think your going to get? Do you think the other team is going to throw a cb to the 8 hole down in the count 2-0? How can you not be sitting on that pitch and looking to drive it? If your hitting in the 3-4-5 you can take an off speed approach here by sitting on a change up. If your wrong so what you are still up in the count. And he still has to throw it for a strike. The mental side of hitting can not be stressed enough. Do you watch and learn from the dugout or do you just watch the game? Does the pitcher always start the hitters off with fb and if its a strike he always comes back with an off speed pitch? And if that first pitch fb is a ball does he always come back with another fb? So much can be learned from the dugout watching and learning.

Where is the pitchers arm slot on his off speed pitches? Does he throw over the top on fb and 3/4 on his curveball? Does he hold the glove high on off speed and lower on fastball?

I like agressive hitters up in the count. Hitters that watch good pitches will swing at bad pitches. When you up in the count you should look in your zone for your pitch. To the 3 or 4 guy that is going to be a different approach than the 8-9 guy. But is always comes down to "Good hitters hit good pitches to hit."

A great hitter will make adjustments from pitch to pitch. A good hitter will make adjustments from at bat to at bat. An average hitter will make adjustments from game to game. And a poor hitter will never make an adjustment.

When a pitcher works behind in the count and you as a team do not make him pay for throwing fat pitches over the plate you are letting him off the hook. When you punish fat pitches you force the pitcher to be passive with his approach. You get legit walks and grooved pitches when he becomes passive.

JTbaseball, I agree completely. I also certainly didn't intend to suggest that anyone is wrong about anything simply because they offer a different opinion. I learned a long time ago that theres much about this great game that I'm still learning each and everyday. My only intention for most of my input is because the discussion on baseball issues on this board is just great, and we have some very good baseball people on this board. Over the years, I have had the privilege of meeting some truly great folk among the TBR community, and would love to meet some more of you in the future. I applaud the coaches who spend so much of your time in teaching this great game.

However, I will add, that if you are ever eating at a restaurant with Braves, he will try to leave you with the check...:N1amenHL2:

    tj21...

no offense taken. You are absolutly correct about the value of ideas, views and approach to the game of baseball that is shared on TBR. Hands down, best around.

Heading to the Elon vs Deleware State game this afternoon. Hope the Phoenix keep it rolling!

Was hoping to get there for BP, but I'm waiting on my father-n-law to go with me.
