Your knowledge of Charlotte basketball seems to be very high. You have seen Butler tonight come to within a point of the Lady Lions...what do you think a team needs to do if they want to beat West Charlotte?

Several Keys to beating West Charlotte:

    1.) Beat full court pressure
2.) Block out on the defensive boards - West Charlotte has a good center and 2 great forwards that are all good rebounders.
3.) Depth - WC will wear you out in the running game if you only play 6 - 7 players.
4.)Match ups at forward - see below for details

The key to beating WC, in my opinion, is the ability to match up with their great forwards - Caldwell and Burton. Both of the forwards have the ability to play guard & center - what an interesting combination.

Also, an interesting tidbit from Friday's game - I am convinced that WC should play MORE selfish basketball. Caldwell & Burton should do more to take over the game. WC lost lots of points by trying to make the extra pass when a shot was more appropriate. They should also push the tempo more, they were relatively passive in the 2nd half on Friday and it about cost them the game.

I was very impressed with WC earlier in the season when they beat Butler by 33 points. I still think they are good - very good - but they can be beaten. They had a down night on Friday and still found a way to win - that is the sign of a Champion.

FINAL 50-44 West Charlotte over Grimsley

from W-S Journal: West Charlotte handed Grimsley its first loss of the season last night, winning 50-44 in the semifinals of the NCHSAA 4-A Western Regional at Atkins High School.
West Charlotte (28-2) will play McDowell for the regional title at 1 p.m. Saturday at Joel Coliseum Annex. Grimsley finished 29-1.

IMO- This might be the first game this season that McDowell will have to slow down to win, WC is a pretty quick group. The Burton kid is quite a player.
    Good Luck to the Titans
