to my fellow tbrs, I was just wondering what are you're feelings about a coach that yells at kids, not in the constructive way but more in the embarissing type of a way. the reason I was curious is because some of the coaches [ one in particular ]that are highly talked about on here are like that. I personaly do not have anything against this coach, but I would be very upset if it were my dd that was treated like this. Now don't get me wrong I don't think they need to be babied but I do think they need to be treated with respect. Just curious about your opinions.

    HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM !!!

Now what coach "HOLLERS @ HIS KIDS ?? " Even if his record is GOOD, then can he HOLLER ??? All honesty, coaching can be done in the right and correct way than showing your $%@ !! I much rather have a kid respect me for what I represent then because I threaten them with bench time!! What gives any coach the right to treat a kid like a DOG !!!

No kid should be treated "like a dog". Usually three things get a coach to raise his/her voice...lack of effort/hustle, not thinking on the field, and talking when the coach is talking.

I have learned one thing in my visits to the softball forum. Things that may be acceptable in the baseball world may be different for softball. This thread has red flags flashing...so I am learning to just read and go forth.

I agree with you totaly, but there's a right way of doing it, not embarissing her in front of the crowd or other team. I'm not bringing up names and my dd does not play there, but I saw girls get treated like a dog from a coach this past weekend, and in my opinion there's no room for that kind of behavior from a hs coach. Sorry this is really none of my affair because like I said my dd dosen't play there, but I just really felt sorry for those kids.

Agree...I was talking about on the practice field. If it happens on the playing field it would be a one on one conversation that would not be heard by the other team.

    These are the post...

Posts like this are the confusing! I get so confused about them because, I could name some HS coaches, that the TBR posters are very familar with, that embarrass their players by yelling at and degrading them all the time, however no one points this out, instead TBR posters get on here and rave about what a wonderful coach that these coaches are!
I will not, name these coaches, but many, many, parents stand and discuss how wrong these coaches are! How they wouldn't let that coach, coach their kid, but then you hear about them playing for them, or bragging about the coach, either in person, or on here! That is confusing!
You either think that behavior from a coach in wrong or you don't! I personally think it is wrong! There is absolutely no reason for this behavior! I do not think this behavior is ok sometimes and not ok sometimes! I do not think this behavior is ok, ever! I am not talking about yelling! A lot of coaches raise their voices and yell! It is what they are yelling!Just yelling in itself is not wrong! Embarrassing a player is a NEVER! There is no reason for it!!

and there is no purpose to point them out on this board.

This is the kind of stuff that upsets me. We are at the beginning of the HS season and instead of reading posts about the players and the teams that are looking good and focusing on the positive things that are happening at schools across the state, we seem to draw that interest back to controversy or bringing up a perceived wart.

There is a time and place to discuss areas that need to be improved, but geez...this should be one of the most exciting times of the year...the beginning of a new season.

Isn't this what the focus should be on? HS softball teams, the conferences, the Top schools in the state, player performances? The things parents like to read (a positive performance of their kids).

The warts are there for all to see, but how informative is it? Doesn't everybody know the warts? But does the person that lives in Shelby know about the player in Raleigh that hit 3 consecutive HR's?

C'mon, save the controversy for the winter time when there isn't much to discuss. This is the time to promote the players and teams and provide useful information for parents to help their DD's in their journey.

    Sounds to me......

...that the coach or coaches think WAYYYYYYY to much of themselves. ......Never will embarassment or knocking a kid down work any way other than resentment. There can be "some" latitude in how stern a coach might choose to be with one player who responds to that type of reinforcement, and dealing with another kid for the same issue in a totally different manner.

    Just a question

Does it make it any "better" if the coach is female? I have heard recently that males do not need to coach softball because they are too hard on the girls. I have also heard the same people take up for a female coach for saying much worse even louder. What gives? :MEPsychologist02HL:
