I know that is very early in the season, but it's nice to South Meck up there again. Things ARE getting better there especially with only two seniors. Next year (2009) should be a real good year for SM!

    Sweet 16

It's still hard to believe that Providence is not in there. I understand why they are not in the top 16, but it's hard for me to imagine.

How about them Weddington boys, are they HOT or what???? They remind me a lot of the way Butler was last year. They don't want anyone to debate on who's the best; they're just going to put it to you. I hope I can catch the AK / Wedd game, should be a good one.

PhillyDave, it is good to see SM back up there. You just had to know that their misfortune was not going to last. I think you're correct about them in '09, they should be stacked!

I think Cliff does a great job when it comes to putting together a Sweet 16 for the Observer area. It is so hard to have a Poll this early in the season, and all you can go on at this point is a few games. Yes everybody knows that Providence is not a bad ball club and most people expect them to rebound eventually. In 06 a highly thought of SM team started off 0-3 and fell right out of this very Poll. They recovered and I'm sure providence will do the same. The poll is simply a reflection of the best 16 teams on paper at any given time. Everybody knows the game doesn't take place with a pen and pad.

Catcher, I like the comparison between Butler and Weddington. I don't think I have heard any one else say this yet and having seen Weddington play once this year and hearing the results of their games, and listening to what people have to say about them thus far, I'd have to agree with you.

Another happy SABRE fan here! Glad to see them doing well in the early part. They have some good young talent on that team as so many people have already said. The SW4A may not be the strongest conference in the state this year, but they will always be one to reckon with. All the teams are so young this year. To me it has always seemed like there were 3 or 4 teams with a lot of experienced players and Senior leadership. Not this year. There should be some great baseball in the conference this year but you just wait, next year should be a much much stronger year top to bottom!:whoosh3:

Your comments about South meck are on target. I have seen them a couple of times this year. Their new coach took some unfair and uninformed criticism last year, but he is doing what he needs to do to get that program headed in the right direction again. He has put together a knowledgeable coaching staff, including Jeff Barkley, a former major league pitcher, and one of the Hill boys from On Deck.
And the kids are young, but playing with a very positive approach.
It is nice to see that young team off to a good start. They will take some lumps in the SW4A this year, but that program is going to be solid again.
