    HMMMM, Craze does have.....

.....something to think about. In women sports, does the gender of a coach play a role in how they can talk/approach/freakout for the good of the team? For now, I'm thinking that gender does have a role in discipline. Going overboard however is not right in any case. HEY TBR, speak up, great post here by Craze. Is there a difference in coach gender stuff?

I think it may, but there are alot of very good male coaches out there that get there point across and still have the respect of all the girls. Iprobably should not have started this thread , Ijust wish people would speak up and put a stop to this kind of behavior no matter who it is because no one ever gets that good to have this kind of behavior go on.

I've been doing this for some time now, tb and hs ball, and i dont remember one incident of ever yelling at one of my girls. i have a different approach, if i have something to say to that girl, we go off down the right field or left field lines and have a private discussion. i find it more effective to talk between innings about problems and errors, and remind them that the punishment for errors is a group run.....i have witnessed a coach or two who pushes the envelope on "good taste" and usually we dont see them the next year. i have to agree that these type of coaches are usually out there for themselves and not the girls, a typical situation where winning is the utmost of importance, and everything is second to that thought. its been pointed out before that hs ball should be a pleasant memory for these girls, winning is important, but learning the game and the lessons of life learned on the field should be number one always. i am more concerned about them leaving hs with great memories, the knowledge of the game, the friendships developed on the field and knowing what kind of team and personal committment it takes to be victorious, than my win/loss record. all of which can be accomplished without yelling or publically embarassing a player. i'm not trying to polish my own apple, i'm sticking up for the hundreds of other hs coaches who take the same view i take....i believe the merit of a good coach is how many former players make a special effort to come back and see him/her solely for the reason of saying thanks and keeping the friendship alive.....jmho

    Interesting -- How Come ???

How come the NCHSAA allows this behavior to go on anyway ?? Just like the kid that started a rumor about a gunman on Apps Campus, he only got a misdemeanor for his action. My wife was frantic because one our sons car was parked right where the supposed gunman was hiding out,and she couldn't get up with him at the time. That kid should have been expelled from school for that outlandish fabricated story. Think about all the people that were effected and the turmoil he created...everybody remember VA.TECH? I just don't understand why an organization would not investigate this allegations and deal with the situation. I guess it is WHO you are how much you can get away with in this day and time..

    It's wrong

I just want to say that no one on here has said anyone's name and I see nothing wrong with this post. However i do think it is important to talk about this. Whether you are and TB coach or HS coach there is a way to treat young ladies without intimidation, embarrassment this will take the love out of the game and before you know it your best player is gone and then you sat and wonder why? Also I think this goes for the coaches on the opposing team using intimidation to get into a kids head just to win at all cost? Our job as coaches is to worry about our own team and teach them the game and hope they put it on the field. Play clean, sportsman ball and set a good example for your team. Remember your team is a reflection of your coaching. Monkey see, Monkey do.

    Listen!....

....to fpitch, don't just read. but listen. She nailed it on the head for using your minds eye. Imagine how YOU would feel or react to seeing ANY sort of intimidation from your opponents, players, coaches, or parents/fans. We all know what would happen......anyway, I think FP is introducing to this thread the art of putting things in perspective.
