I just have to ask your opinion

I am new to this board, I can not sit back and not voice my opinion on something that is really aggravating this 'ol' grandpa.

My granddaughter plays on Randleman's JV team, we were at Central Davidson last night for a double header, well we stayed around to support our varsity team. The lack of fan control at that game was UNREAL!! There was this speech before the games started about "showing good sportsmanship" and signs are posted all over the fences stating the very same thing.

Well to make a long story short there was this group of students who sat behind home plate yelling at the batters to "swing" and shouting K K K K K when our girls were in the batters box, also telling them they better back up in the box. They were extremely LOUD!! This went on the ENTIRE game, it is not like the pitcher from Central needed any help from those loud mouthed students! She is great, but I am so disappointed the coach from Central did not go over and tell those students to shut up. I think I had even heard that he is the athletic director at Central. Wow, that little bit of information blew my mind! I think they need to take those signs down and stop giving that speech about sportsmanship if they can not control that crowd at Central. I know our coach would have never let that go on at Randleman!

Come on get control over that group of students that come out and support your softball team.

Sorry if this upsets some of you, I am just telling you like it was, and how I feel about what happened.

I was there last night also Went to watch some of the girls that play on our summer teams Can not believe some of the comments from this group of students Ask one young lady in the Batters Box if she wanted some Butter to go with her Rolls Don't understand why the ump allowed this to go on all night Ledfrdguy and softballjunkie Were there also Suprised Ledfred didn't go home last night and post something on here

I was at that game and I beleive in fan support, but the way that group was doing it was more insulting the other team than showing support for there team. How would you like to be the visiting team and a large group of people was sitting behind home plate calling one of your team members degradeing names and yelling swing everytime a pitch was thrown. I hope someone gets that taken care of because it really takes the attention away from the game and that would be a shame as good a team as they have. Be supportive of your team and show good sportsmanship to your opponents. show some CLASS

When I first read PapaBear's post, I will admit my first instinct was - ohhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooo keeping my mouth shut on this one. However, contrary to initial instinct, after reading some of the replies here, I am going to give my 2 cents.

Papa, NDSB, junkie and Ldfrdguy are all correct.

While I was obviously not at this game and cannot attest to how bad the behavior may have been, let me ask you this:

As most of us here are coaches of TB or parents of TB players think about the behavior from this standpoint: If this game had been the Dynamite Showcase or the Cardinal Showcase, ie, and college scouts were there to view your players or your daughter would you condone behavior such as this by the fans - or be horrified? Frankly this behavior would not occur in the showcase setting because everyone is putting forth their best manners so the players can be seen in their best light.

While it appears the onlookers were the source of the problem, the home team's coaches, support staff, other fans, parents and yes, even the players, have a great deal of influence on how the fans behave. If all of these components involved in school ball condone such poor manners, it reflects badly not only on those that are acting poorly but the team, the coach and the school.

I don't know about anyone else on this board, but one of the reasons I am so supportive of my child being involved in athletics is that both her TB team and her HS team DEMANDS good manners, responsibility and decorum.

When we as parents and/or coaches condone such poor behavior from fans on our home turf and even gloat about how funny something not so funny said was, then we are leading a very very poor example for our own daughters/children.

Only a person with NO MORALS or VALUES would think that is funny!!!! That was said to a HUMAN BEING!!!! Just because she wasn't your DD, doesn't mean she isn't someone's DD! Cometo think of it, it was probably your kid saying it!!!! THAT WAS NOT FUNNY!!!!!
