    NCAA Rule 3.2.5 p 47

This is a common sense rule...

Heaters are allowed in dugouts, but you are not allowed to warm the bats
in a manner that will alter its properties based on the weather

Umpires should let the coaches and teams know, prior to
the game, if they see a heater, as they are checking dugouts, that artificially warming of the bats to improve performance is considered a treatment to the equiptment, and alters it's playing properties..

    Penalty...
Batter is declared out and ejected
Bat removed from contest until end of game
    Incident report filed with NCAA

Putting them under your coat does not artificially improve the performance, and is not illegal.

After returning 4 RT's my DD busted last year in high school, I figured something out. It's not necessarily the cold bat that is the problem, it's the cold balls.

Two of the bats that she busted last year were in practice and on days over 50 degrees. Knowing the practice balls were kept in the storage building in the dugout all night and day, we started keeping balls inside prior practice...... guess what, no more busted bats.

Not if you invest in our "turbo" edition!.....

.....I know I'm making fun of this subject....but DAMN!!!! folks!!!, where does the policing of when, how, and where, AND even WHAT, bat can be at the descretion of an umps policy. Umps ck. bats prior to a game, thats it, and thats the end of their PERSONAL involvement with a bat in the dugout, well ,atleast as far as they KNOW!. They have know clue if one bat or another is the one that they checked prior to the game, other than the obvious "illegal" brand name bats. How can they call a game, and still "police" the warming of a bat? And I'll go one further, even though I cooked it too long in the microwave, therefor no longer usable, I bought my DD a gel-filled plastic gig that when put in the micro, it would keep your bat warm for a couple of hrs. As far as I know, it was legal, but me being the Einstien that I am, yep, the same guy who couldn't program a VCR, POW!, right in the microwave! Overdone was not what I intended,....nor was I trying to skirt a rule. I'm glad I'm not a cook.

The easy answer is to NOT play in such conditions if you cannot get the bats to a temp that would not ruin them and void the guarantee. If that happened I bet the "directors" of tournaments would soon change the rules

To this date, it doesnt seem so, at least not like the 2005/2007 models. my understanding is that the failure rate is way under one percent. of all the bats i have sold, i only know of one that has been returned and that was for the end cap coming off. we're using them in practice every day, including the 42 degree ice day we had in practice and not a dent or ripple as of yet.
