Last time I checked, the game is going on inside the fences, not outside. Those kids paid their 5 bucks just like everyone else and are entitled to say what they want. Quit complaining and enjoy what's going on inside the fences.

And I second that to any game that's being played, except of course golf, I understand that.

Okay, I hope you got your points across. The 1st post addressing this issue never should have been posted the 1st time. There is a place to discuss this on the Preps boards. You will find it on the front page of Preps, under the girls basketball forum.

    TIA

I don't have a problem with the cheering, but if players are pointed out by their appearances by the fans..IE... '' She's so big'',or some kind of smart remark, or making fun of the other team, then I have a problem with those type of remarks. I think school spirit is great, but hurtful comments are not accepted, and should not be tolerated in any sport function !!! Sports were not designed to hurt ,but to strengthen the athlete, and bring out their competitive nature, but not to the point of putting down others !!

    how i feel

Cheering for your team/kid is great. Not wanting your team to loose is natural. Being mean spirited is not acceptable on any level. In a sport that has come a long way in the past few years but is still striving to be respected as a ligit sport I think we the fans have to set an example to the rest of the world that still consider women's sports a joke. Myself and other parents not only cheer for our girls but on any given game day you can and will hear us compliment a rival teamate on a great catch, hit, etc. At the end of the day we are a family of one people. Girls that are striving to earn respect in the sport of softball while having a great time and accomplishing goals that they have set. There are enough people out there that want to make girls softball an example of how unprofessional a sport this is. We have to prove them wrong. Lead by example. Cheer your girls on, get excited but show some class, please. At the end of the day try to keep in mind that we are a family of one no matter what team/school your girl plays on. Just my opinion.

    Kids vs. Adults

Yep, I got railed for my posts....with several folks wanting to "meet me" at the next CD game. That's cool....my comment about the "large kids" was insensitive and inappropriate. It was a cheap shot by me intended to rile some folks up....and it did. For that, I was wrong.

The point is this: On this Board, a bunch of ADULTS (parents/grandparents) are expecting the CD kids to watch a sporting event as an adult would. That's not fair to the kids. You cannot expect 15-18 year old kids to maturely watch a sporting event in the same manner as a 40 or 50 year old would.

I LOVE the school spirit, I LOVE the participation/support, and I LOVE the energy and the creativity that the CD kids are showing towards a "dark horse" sport. At my local high school, softball games are like funerals. Students do not attend and the parents sit around and complain about the coaches and the umpires. Not creating many good memories for anyone...

I wish our local high school had the issue that CD has....which is a HIGH LEVEL of energy and involvement from student body. And, for the record, I hope that when CD goes to Randleman to play, that the Randleman student body is prepared to dish out just as much as they took when they played CD at CD.

Folks, that's how rivalries are born. It's the students that create the rivalries, NOT the parents. Give the CD students a "mulligan" for making some inappropriate comments, but don't stifle their support of their classmates and their team.

I STILL want to see CD play and I want to experience the CD student body for myself! Good Luck CD in getting back to Walnut Creek. You only have 3 or 4 years of high school in your life....ENJOY IT while you can!

    I Don't Think!!

I'm really an outsider on this issue that happened at CD, but I don't think the issue is the kids cheering their team onto VICTORY..it was the negative remarks that got the parents / kids riled up form the other team !! I don't totally agree that 15-18 year olds can't act maturely, if they don't start at an early age by the time they reach 30-40 it's way too late. We make excuses for our kids all the time, and they feed off that and act immature knowing that mama and daddy UNDERSTAND that they are "Just Teenagers." I've always heard that a kid is really a reflection of his or her parent...and you know sometimes the mirror is dull and needs to be cleaned. I sometimes see my DD's personality that reminds me of myself, and you know what I don't like what I see,but who do I blame but MYSELF !!! :bigcry:
