    For the record

I may be wrong but is it not illegal for the players and coaching staff to yell "swing" During an AB of an opposing team?
Anyway... as stated before I was at this particular game and was pissed at the actions of these students. But since then I have had a spirited and positive conversation with Spartan 51 and I believe that those bad issues have been resolved. What has happened has happened, and in the end it was handled and treated in the right way. I do hope that CD students will continue to support this fine team with the same fervor just with new direction. With that I can't help but envy such a following, I wished that every HS Softball team had great fans. I look forward to my DD sharing the same field as CD. Continued good luck to all.

I appreciate the maturity this thread has been handled. This is the way to discuss a "hot topic"...no arrows, differing opinions, yet, no feathers ruffled.

I don't agree with the personal remarks or the intentional distractions during a swing, but hey, I love the cheering, even the heckling to a certain extent. But you have to understand; I grew up where the fans from Mississippi would throw chicken bones at me....already eaten

OK, how many of you, weather it be as a kid or an adult, has made any ugly comments about other people. If anyone says they never has is just plain, flat out LYING.

I beg to differ on the "Kids will be Kids" theory.
If you were at your local Walmart and overheard the same nasty remarks by a kid that you might hear at the softball game, then I am not so sure you would have the same acceptance or tolerance. Being accountable for one's actions is an important lesson children need to be taught. Yes, as a child I was guilty of saying ugly things. The difference was, my behind paid for what my mouth said. As an adult, if I offend or hurt someone's feelings, I am responsible enough to appologize for doing so. But I won't continue on but just close this out by saying that we all have a common bond which is loving this sport and watching our girls have fun. If everyone acts responsibly and respectfully then we can walk away from the stands feeling good about the game we watched because THAT is why were came in the first place. Right?:N1respectHL:

    I AGREE WHOLE HEARTEDLY!!! 100%

I agree 1005 with the GURU on this one!!!
I believe in school spirit and team support, it is half the fun of going to HS sports! But just being MEAN, no way, NO EXCUSE for it! From a 15 yr old or a 60 yr old!! By the time you are 15 years old you should already know that it is not appropriate to say certain things to or about another human being! I feel that is true for all things in life, period, sporting events, school, church, dances, whatever, life!
ps I don't have a problem with the SWING thing (during an AB or a pitch, both should be focused on the job at hand), Just like I don't see anything wrong with waving ballons in front of a basketball player shooting a foul shot!

we have all been told by our own fans, coaches, administrators, and even our own softball team that some of the things we said that night were hurtful but many of our players have personally told me that when they get up to bat that they don't hear anything and thats what we try to do is to get into the opponents head thats everyones goal and we know we do wrong and we are told but none of us appreciate being cussed for saying things for example at the west stokes game i personally was sing a song during a change of innings and changed the lyrics a little bit but nothing harmful like calling someone fat. then coach had to tell us that we couldn't even call out positions. someone in our crowd proceeded to say "you need to take some notes" while our pitcher was pitching as soon as he said that one of the opposing teams fans an adult yelled at us saying that we were insulting their team. personally if i was them i would want to take notes because were are the defending state champs if you haven't checked and also have the best pitcher in the state, also during this game we were being video taped because of the rand. game.

all i'm trying to say is that one if these other teams had support for all of our sports not just softball (you'd notice if you come to any cd sporting event) yall wouldn't be complaining and neither would we we just yell right on back at ya' like the east davidson game right before we went to walnut creek last year

just a response from one of the many newly nicknamed "silent spartans"

so let me get this right, you have a good softball team, last years champs, and a good pitcher, so that appartently gives you the right to verbally abuse players from another team? it would seem to me that most of our members are trying to educate you about respect. its not sandlot ball any more, its highschool, its cheering for your team, not dubbing the other players. in fact in most of the hs games that i have attended, parents and players from both teams will cheer a players excellent effort no matter what team they play on. respect...i honestly wouldnt come on an internet forum about softball, consisting mostly of parents and coaches, and defend your position, there is no defense for being disrespectful. as Braves pointed out, its all about the girls, the respect, support, training, education and public knowledge of their accomplishments. If this were done at my hs, my retort to the students guilty would have been simple: "you've embarrassed yourselves, you've embarrassed the school, your idea of team spirit and support is twisted to the point of negatively affecting our school image" if you personally aren't guilty of saying anything, you're still guilty by not stopping the persons who did. you're guilty of association simply because you didnt up and leave or stop the persons who are guilty, in other words, if you didnt stop it, you probably supported it in one way or another.

As a moderator, i welcome all new members, but if your only reason to come on this board was to defend a position that has no defense, i suggest you not come back. you're free to post anything in good taste here, just be supportive.

this thread is coming close to being closed, as in my mind, its all been said.

    Sportsmanship

This is how it is defined.... something we all need to understand

    Key component of sportsmanship...
Show you know the game......if you do,
you know what it is like to play at a high level,

It's allot easier to talk a big game from the stands, when you
don't have the presssure to do it with your bat and glove on the field.

Not ever player on the field is an allstar.... but they are on the field.
Cheer for your team, not against your opponents.
