    Illegal Pitch???

I only visit this website because you can usually get some really good discussions going and I like adding a different view of issues. I love the girls, I have a teenage daughter mtself, and she played for years, I only want what would benefit them. After 33 years as a professional official, I'm immuned to the outside comments, but I will respond when appropriate. Again, to all the young ladies out there who love this sport, if there is anything I can possibly do to help them, I will.
    Have a great season.

He may be one of the good guys but if he really thinks most umpires know what an illegal pitch is then he is sadly mistaken. Most umpires are out there for the money and that is all. Some don't even deserve to umpire a 8u rec game let alone a hs game.

There are a few decent umpires and even less good umpires.

I agree Jack, especially after last nights hs game, but we do have some really good umps out there..................this year, we're having a time with the interference rules, to the point that our head coach is carrying a rule book with him, but it still comes down to the umps defination of what they read and what it means to them as they see it or define it.

    That is the problem....

First they must read the rules and then understand what they mean. It is not suppose to be how they interpret the rule.

    Amen to leg drive

Velocity matters, alot. I've watched a lot D1 ball the last few years and 80% of the time the team with the FASTEST pitcher wins. Sure there are exceptions but they are just that exceptions. College coaches look for power on the theory that they can teach spin. It's much harder to teach power. The acknowledge best HS pitcher in the state a couple of years ago was pure spin. She's struggled at the next level.

    Leg Drive

I do know Sharon Baily stresses leg drive, & if you watch some of her pitchers you'll see it. Several men instructors do not teach this, so if my DD were going to one, I would ask if they teach leg drive.
