    What we do...

I know that I can't hear all that our fans say during a game...but we announce the following at every game. We state that we...

...promote good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Any profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site of competition. Thank you for your cooperation, and we hope you enjoy tonight’s game

We rely on our administrative staff and the deputies/security at the games to enforce the above rules.

    Student support

It is a shame that the actions of a few bad apples have created such a hot topic. As a fan that has supported my team in some good competition against CD, I loved the way the CD student body cheered their team on. Especailly the "KKKKKKK" chant when the count reached two strikes. It was later that I learned of the negative comments from "some" of the student body. I have to give their students credit for the most part, because they have brought a level of support rarely found in high school athletics (in any sport), especially when you consider their position in relation to the batter (approx 8-10 ft. away). I still don't agree with the immature/insensitive comments or the "swing" after the pitch is released and as it reaches the batter (yes this is when it happens...don't deny it!), but for the most part I just wish our student body came out in those kind of numbers. I'm not sure our AD or principal would even allow the positive chants though.

Even though I'm new to this board, I'll throw a question out there to play devils advocate.....Some have posted that this support is great for softball, but wouldn't be appropiate for golf or tennis. If a school has a high division I level golfer or tennis player (like CD's pitcher), why not have a student section to cheer on their fellow student with loud, positive energy? Is chanting "KKKKK" or yelling "swing" any different from yelling "four" as a golfer is about to tee off or yelling "fault" or something as a tennis player is about to serve? It'll be interesting to see some thoughts on what some of the opinions are out there. I know I've seen "quiet" signs held up at tennis and gold events, but I'm not sure if there are actually written rules addressing this directly. Maybe everyone should try holding up "quiet" signs the next time they play @ CD.

I watch tennis on TV from time to time since my 6 year old takes lessons from a college coach down here. I can honestly say that I have never seen any of those fans yell "fault" as someone is trying to serve. Have not seen anyone yell "fore" in golf unless the ball is heading towards a group. If they do, they ask them to stop, then if they keep it up, they ask them to leave.

Where have you seen this happening? Bushwood Country Club? For those of you too young to remember, that is the club in the movie Caddyshack?

it is inappropriate to try outright to be a poor sport, sorry. None of my HS kids, travel kids, or own 3 daughters will ever, ever be allowed to heckle, boo another play, etc. More about a life lesson than about the actual sport itself.

    You just admitted....

Here in lies the problem! That is correct, you know that you were doing wrong! Just like you don't appreciate being cussed for saying things, people don't appreciate coming to watch their DD or Grandaughters, or Nieces or friends, just to hear someone making totally inappropriate comments about them! It is ok to chant KKKKK when the count is at 2 strikes, IMO, it is ok to scream Swing, IMO. It is not ok to say hurtful, embarrassing, degrading, demeaning comments to anyone, about them as a human being, their looks, their play style, their mistakes, etc...! You know this is wrong, you put it in writing yourself (quoted above) I applaud team spirit and support but you always need to remember that when you are there cheering, the person to your right/left might be the (batter's, pitcher's, shortstop's, right fielder's), mom. dad, sister, brother, cousin, uncle, aunt, grandmother or grandfather!
I don't consider this too difficult to figure out, especially by the time you are in HS, you should know how to act appropriately in public! You shouldn't need an adult to tell you this by now! When you are 16 you can get a license to drive a car, if you can drive, then you know how to follow simple directions and rules! Once you have a driver's license you don't have to always have an adult with you to tell you not to run a red light, or to stop at a stop sign! Think about it! Use your brain! Just like you should think, before you get in a car with someone who has been drinking! Just say NO!

most of us would rather hope that you learned a little about respect, rather than think that we "scared" you off. scaring you off was never the point of the discussion.

i have a question for all of you that say these things about us. how many cd games have you attended in the last few years?

if you've been to some and sat near us (cause you can't sit with us) you would know that we have now stopped saying these things. the west stokes game was our first day of abstinence.

have you ever seen this in high school softball?
