    question...

For Mincmi: Do you know who S. Meck has beaten and lost to? Just starting to follow the guys as we have time. I know the Panthers have a had a couple bad breaks and could easily be 4-2 instead of 2-4. Curious of your current read on the SW4A...i.e. how would you rank them?

    SW4A

Don't bring your "A" game in this league, you get beat. Sometimes you get beat with it.

    Ragsdale 8 Trinity 1

    Trinity 0-0-0-1-0-0-0 1-4-3
    Ragsdale 1-0-2-0-0-5-X 8-14-2

    WP Nick McBride 2-0 6IP 3H, 3W, 8SO, 1ER
    LP Jared Kirk

Ragsdale - Cody Myers 2-3, Kyle Brandenburg 3-4 RBI, Ben Fultz 2-3, 3B, 2 RBIs, Nate Cash 1-2, 2 RBIs, Billy Stone 1-2, 2 RBIs.

Ragsdale looked a little flat tonight and blew open a close game with a big flurry in the 6th. McBride wasn't his sharpest tonight but after it was over and looked at his stats and they weren't that bad. All the kids listed above continue to swing the bat well.

Good defense in the field from Desean Anderson (CF), Brandenburg at SS and Mike Whited at third. Ragsdale now 7-1, 3-0 on the season. Next game @ Asheboro next tuesday.

What a shot in the arm to get Alex Wood back this early. What a great way to start by tossing a shutout. This is exactly what AK needed...plus, it is nice to see my boy, Brett, still hitting bombs!!!!

South has beaten Charlotte Catholic twice, Mallard Creek, East Meck, and Independence. Today was their first loss of the season to Providence.

South has a good group of young talent. No seniors that are position players. They have swung the sticks very well coming into today's game, but they had not seen SW4A pitching until today. They did not get East Meck's or Indy's number 1.

Today they saw Providence's number 3-4 and where held to 4 hits. They were rallying in the 6th so Mr. Shaffer was called in to get the Panthers out of the jam. Then you had the classic match up. Spencer Shuey who entered the game hitting .700+ with the power to take it out of any park and can tie it with one swing vs. Richie Shaffer who fanned 16 on Monday.

Shaffer gets Shuey out front on a breaking ball and dribbles one down the third base line. K's the next hitter and the Panthers are out of the woods.

Speaking of Woods, I expected to see Tyler Woods on the hill today, but they came back with Glenn after throwing Monday. IMO they need Woods to be a factor for the top slots in the league.

As far as the league goes, you have to say MP to date. But the difference between MP, Weddington, Providence, Butler and AK is minimal. One thing that MP has over the others is more varsity level experience. Almost their entire starting line-up played extensive innings at the varsity level last year.

The each of the "top 5" IMO has a star player: Shaffer-Providence; Tewell-Butler; Stetson-AK; Overman-MP; Pilkington-Weddington. South, East, nor Indy has that type of player on their team.

The winner of the league will be the team that fines the supporting cast members and has them step up. Butler had Yandle and Varnadoe this week. MP had Belthoff produce a game winner. Today Providence recieve a big lift from Kurt Seminuik. That is why those teams are at the top of the standings right now.

Weddington, AK, South will need to match in the coming week or they will fine that a serious gap will be developing.

Sure has been a fun start and should only get better.

    Standings:
    Myers Park 3-0, 7-0
    South Meck 2-1, 5-1
    Butler 2-1, 5-2
    Ardrey Kell 2-1, 5-2
    Providence 2-1, 2-4
    East Meck 1-2, 1-4
    Weddington 0-3, 5-3
    Independence 0-3, 3-5

South goes to 6-0 on the season. I didn't get to go down to Winston Salem tonight so I don't have any details at this time but someone called me that attended the game and gave me the score.
