Trey Holmes returned to the mound after a year and pitched 3 innings for the Mustangs who remained undefeated in the 3A NPC. Cody Laws pitched the final 4 innings. Holmes, who was projected to be East's ACE last year, suffered a wrist injury last year. East now has their top 2 pitchers back and throwing (Corbin Shive and Trey Holmes) and should be very strong down the stretch.

The Mustangs travel to Florida next week to compete in the Cocoa Express Baseball Showcase which features 30 teams.

    A few observations on the game;
    1) Ethan Moyer pitched an incredible game.
He was every bit as dominating as Moore and Messer the night before for five innings, but has nothing to show for it. I guess that's why they call baseball, the game built for dissapointment.
2)ACR's Jeremy Sluder pitched an impressive game as well ,by working out of several jams, and keeping the game close with 8-10 K's. WHS scored a run on a double steal and another on a solo HR.
    3) Trey Dunnigan hit a towering HR, and Adam Church hit the hardest 330 foot line drive I've ever seen in a HS game. An absolute missile. The leftfielder could barely move by the time it sailed over his head and one hopped the fence.
    4) After four innings of Moyer facing just one over the minimum, ACR started rolling over their batting order starting in the fifth. This was huge because it enabled ACR to get back to the top of their order for the fourth time in the bottom of the seventh.
5)ACR has a very formidable top of their batting order with Wall,Teaberry,Overby & Case. Good sticks.

Thanks for the update 007. The kids at the top of the line-up for the Rockets are Alexander Wall, Phillip Teadway, Matt Overby and Jake Hill.

The win really tightens up the NW4A standings. It looks like East Burk may be the sleeper of the conference. Their starting pitching is real good, and the team plays with a lot of confidence. Of course Watauga and South Caldwell will be there. If the Reynolds younger players can be more consistent and play like they belong, I believe they can be at the top of the conference as well.

Matt Murphy (2-0) got the complete game win for the Patriots. Tyler Wilson had 2 doubles and Matt Parker had 3 singles to lead the way.

    Southern 6-3, 1-0
    Northern ?-?, 0-1

Stopped by Cary HS last night when I got off work... Thought the game would be over but I ended up seeing a few innings because it went extra's.

Athens topped Cary 10-9 in either 8 or 9.

No details other than the brief write up in the paper. (no more box scores :blauwoog: ) I believe David Coffey pitched for his third win (3-0). I know that catcher Nate Cash continues to crush the ball. 4-5 with three doubles and four RBIs. Ben Fultz, Desean Anderson, Cody Myers, Billy Stone and Kyle Brandenburg each had two hits. The Tigers have really been hitting the ball well.

Now 8-1 (4-0) on the season. Home Thursday night against Randleman.

    Lee Co vs Fuquay

For the record in this pitching duel, Zach Furl and Kevin Brandt both pitched 7 innings each:
    Furl's pitch count 103, 7Ks, 0 ER.
    Brandt's pitch count 94, 10 Ks, 0 ER.
Brandt's ERA 0.4375 in 16 IP w/23Ks for the season.
Just wanted to also give give credit to the other pitcher in the pitching duel. Great game, glad to see neither pitcher took a loss in this one.
