But my fishing stories are true. I can not believe all of the emails, text messages and phone calls my son had about his "owl fishing"...like I wasn't telling the truth!:hilljack:

I will admit that Braves' fishin stories are even somewhat believable, compared to some of the "regales" he often tells at the ballpark... :22_yikes:

Being up in years I attended elementary school (was 1st -8th grade back then) when rather than organized PE classes we had recess on the playground. The first hint of spring when you dug out your baseball glove and carried it to school or those 3 and 4 inning games we would play at recess. Getting to school early and playing flies and mosquitoes or roll the bat on the playground until the bell rung. Going to high school games when the big consolidated high schools were few and far between and almost every community had their own high school.
The old Tri-Country Conference consisted of high schools --Nashville, Spring Hope, Bailey, Middlesex, Coopers, Whitakers, Red Oak, North, South and West Edgecombe, Benvenue those were really competitive days of the wooden bat, dirt infields and day baseball--no one had lights in the mid sixties.

Nothing could replace the bubble gum smell of the baseball cards that came out each spring. They came in penny packs with a stick of bubble gum ot the jumbo nickel packs which contained eight cards and a SLAB of gum.

Even though those days are long gone now, the first break of warm weather , the pock of the balls hitting the glove and the crack ( or should I say ring in these aluminum days) of the bat still creates an inner thrill that is indescribable.

Don't forget the bicycle spokes and clothespins. I remember this one pack I opened had a Harvey Haddix card. The ugliest baseball player I've ever seen..it was scary. I'm going to see if I can find that card

never felt the DH should be part of the grand old game. and baseball was only meant to be played on real grass.
