Ritchie is a very patient batter. If the ump is not giving you the low outside strike, he is tough if not impossible to pitch to inside, because of his quick bat . Why waste the pitches....... if you got the empty base or no one on base .... walk him. Great stategy, he can and will beat you with one swing.

Bennett throws a 1 hitter and Cory Hipp leads off with a jack (2), followed by Brad Roland 2 run shot (1). Out of hand early, 8 runs in the 1st meant alot of playing time for everyone. Bennett and Luke Burton both had 2 hits on the day.

    Swain 6-0 (3-0)

Last year there was a little lefty pitcher from Myers Park that faced him with the bases loaded and the game on the line. The count went to 3 - 2 and the battle proceeded. I believe Shaffer fouled off the next 3 fastballs. Then a nasty down and in curve got him on a swing and a miss for strike three. End of inning. MP held on to win the game in the next inning. That was memorable to see. It's not often that someone strikes him out and especially with the game on the line.

I agree it can be very boring to walk him all the time. I like to see a pitcher and a coach willing to challenge him. I'm willing to pay my 4 dollars to see it again.

Too bad they didn't intentionally walk him.
Sounds like it would have been the smart thing to do.
    Intention walks to the same player in the same game;
    1 IW-respect
    2 IW-fear
    3-IW-abject terror
All the pitchers I know, live for these match-ups.
What message are you sending your pitching staff, when you issue 3 IW's to the same player ?
You are not only depriving the hitter, you are eliminating an opportunity for the pitcher to find out how good he is.
IW's may be smart, but they dilute the essence of the game, which is the confrontation between pitcher and hitter.
Why not let the players decide who is the better team ?
It's high school baseball for cryin out loud.

I said after our series with them last year that ND would be the team to beat in 4A this year. Looks like they are proving me right

I understand from a fans perspective that you want to see those match ups. When I go to watch a game I feel the same way. But as a coach if I dont have to give the best player on the other team an opportunity to beat me Im not going to. The object of the game for the coach is to make the moves that he believes gives his team the best chance to win that day. Alot of times the IBB is not given but the hitter is just pitched around hoping that he chases out of the zone and gets himself out. When you are facing a kid that you just can not afford to make a mistake to or he is the type of hitter that can miss it and still hit it out you walk him. It can be very frustrating for the hitter. But the bottom line is some other guys have to step up and make the other team pay.

You will see some kids have big numbers one year and then wonder why those numbers fall off the next season. Alot of times its because they were pitched to one year and pitched around the next. Its a big reason stats are so misleading. IMO you have to surround this guy with a couple of sticks that can hurt the other team. And the player has to understand its part of the game and not get frustrated. I certainly see your point. But the coach has to make the decisions that he feels gives his team the best chance to win.

Does anyone have scores from the Greensboro area, especially Metro 4-A action, from Thursday and Friday?
