Here is a question for all of you stat specialist. I am the farthest thing from an expert so I thought I would ask this board. A friend and I differ on what the correct stat should be under the following situation we had in a game last week. Runner on third, batter hits a slow ground ball to second; second base throws batter out at first and allows the runner to score from third. Does the batter just get charged with an out? Does the batter get charged with an out and credit for an RBI? Does the batter get credit for a SAC? If you can’t tell this question arose while trying to figure her batting average. I say an out with an RBI. He says a SAC with an RBI. His theory is that this had the same affect as a SAC pop fly to the outfield. I understand his thinking but I have never seen it scored this way. I would greatly appreciate your wisdom on this. Thanks in advance.

    exactly right

he is right. A sac bunt (suicide) or pop fly would satisy the "SAC" on this, but a grounder to the infield would not. The second baseman chose to take it to first, thus the out has to be recorded as such. Also need to look at the intention of the AB.

    Braves is right..

    Out and a rbi.....

Most teams would have the runner on third, running on contact...
with a read on balls hit to 3rd..

    NOPE --- Don't Think So !!!

Does not constitute a SAC...above already mentioned and defined !! Don't get me started on STATS !! Parents don't need to be keeping STATS... IE...Little Susie has the highest batting avg., most RBI's,and so on,so on !!! A hard hit does not always constitute a HIT !!! PLEASE IF YOU CAN'T READ THE INSTRUCTIONS DON'T TRY AND PUT THE SWINGSET TOGETHER !!!

    Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This should result in two outs. Batter is out with an RBI and the second one would be to get this scorekeeper out of the books. This is why college coaches are finding it hard to put any faith in HS score books anymore.

    Out and RBI......

.......now if the bases are loaded, and the batter walks, is that an RBI?
