It's a good one. If the batter is in the box, the umpire would have to make a judgement call as to whether the batter was attempting to impeed the throw. If the batter was out of the box it would be the same but could be a harder call if the catcher had moved out of her position as well. Bottom line, it's gonna come down to a judgement call by the official dependent on player positioning and movement. What say ye?

    Tough call

According to the rule book: "If the catcher or her throw to a base hits the batter or her bat while she is in the batter’s box, the ball is live and there is no interference unless the contact is intentional and initiated by the batter." If the batter is out of the box and intentionally interferes with the play; The ball is dead, the batter is out, and each runner must return to the base legally occupied at the time of the pitch. Like other posters have said; it is a judgement call by the umpire.

That is what the rule book says but I would bet most umpires would call it interference no matter where the batter is.

Some may boot the call, but I don't think it'd be most.

I agree that the correct call is that if the batter is in the box, unless she did something unusual or deliberate to block the throw, it's not interference.
