First base coaches are notorious about being out of their boxes at the corners...Okay is it interference if the ball is hit to first base as a pop,and the first baseman runs into the base coach trying to get to the ball ??? How about if he is in the box, and the first baseman runs into the base coach trying to get to the ball ??

if the coach is in the box, its not interference, out of the box is interference. i always make an attempt to get out of the way for any defensive player....dont want to win that way.

If you are coaching a base...

and get run over by a player on a foul ball....
It is time for you to get off the field...

It is the coach's responsibility to get out of the way, especially outside of the box, but even in the box. The fielder must be allowed to make the play. If the coach is in the way, the it is interference, and an out (7-4-9).

    NOPE --- Don't Think So !!!

That is what the box is for ... to house the coach, if every coach started shifting right; then left to get out of the way of the ball while in the box he may stumble and fall and impede the fielder even worse !!!

    Coaches boxes

The Coaches Box is not a sactuary for the coach, he/she must allow the fielder in the situation you described, to make a play on the ball. The box protects the coach from thrown live balls that inadvertantly strike them. The act of not moving when the fielder is moving over to try to catch a pop-up, is considered an intentional act and the batter will be called out.

    Okay !!

I've been doing this for a long time, and I've never seen a batter called out because a coach didn't move...not questioning your authority, just never seen it happen...what if the coach moves the wrong direction and runs into the fielder is the batter out also ??

    YEP!!!

Unfortunately, YES, if the coach is trying to get out of the way, the batter would still be called out. It's one of the numerous "Catch-22's" in the rules. I don't post these to try to show everyone how much I know about the rules, I'm just trying to bring a light to a lot of the misconceptions that have crept into fastpitch softball. With education, we can make this game better for our daughters
