Here's The Bottom Line !!!

I've been getting call after call with good friends being concerned about the poll rankings, and asking me how they get their information. I tell everyone I talk to the polls mean nothing...it comes down to this one thing....who's got the hardware at the end of the tournament !!

You're right Guru. Polls are for fun only. It doesn't mean anything other than as a source for discussion and to give attention to teams. It's a great topic for discussion throughout the season, but ultimately it does not mean a thing.

The only poll that does matter is the season ending poll that lists your team #1 for winning the State Championship.

They are for fun folks! It's another avenue that brings attention to a sport that deserves the attention.

 

I like to think the polls could be a good motivator to a team who is ranked 2 spots below a team they beat.

It can do both. It can also cause a false sense of confidence. How many times have you seen a team just "show up" thinking they already have the game won.

An example: in 2006 a team was ranked #1 in 4A pre-season poll. They actually believed that and were full of themselves. They lost 4 of their first 5 games before righting their ship.

Coaches can use the polls to their advantage, while other coaches choose to ignore it because they want to prove their worth "on the field"

The only poles I have any use for are the ones that hold up our batting cages and hitting station nets.
