    Sometimes

you have to take your lumps and put it in your memory bank. Two schools this close to each other should play every year, they'll have to play each other twice every year starting in 2009. If Draughn High gets enough varsity players, they're going to play EB this fall in football and that might not be pretty but in the long run it will help Draughn. I feel that only the seniors should have a choice to where they go. If you are in Draughn's district and a junior, then Draughn is where you should be.

    Should play? According to whom?

How many victories did they have in 2007/2008?

Why would an AD or coach of a 2nd year school voluntarily sign up the kids for a game that may end with a score of 91 - 22? How does that help the girls? What do they obtain from this game that helps them in the future?

What memory bank are you trying to fill? This is not the memory from high school that I want to remember, especially if it is not required by conference alignment.

This team should schedule every non - conference game with another first or second year school and games from more established schools in 2A and 1A. These type situations will help the girls improve.

How in the world does this help the girls from Patton? Let them experience some victories for goodness sakes. As adults, we should be promoting fun and enjoyment for the girls of a 2nd year team - let the girls love the game of basketball. Why in the world should they schedule a game where they know they will get blown out!

Neighbors don't have to play - especially for the benefit of the adults. There is no benefit to the Freedom kids nor the Patton kids from scheduling this game.

should play every year, they're going to be in the same conference starting in 2009 and they'll play each other at least twice every year, so what does taking a year off matter? Freedom killed East Burke in boys basketball for the better part of 26 years but in the last 8 years East Burke has held their own. Travel time and distance also figures in, if you can go only a few miles away to play in this economy, then you should. Sports sometimes teaches tough life lessons and while it's no fun getting beat by 40 or 50 points, the saying goes that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger! Most every other team including 1A and 2A teams beat Patton girls bad last year, are you not going schedule them? The Patton boys fought through some bad losses last year and came on at the end of the year for some impressive wins. I bet those boys want to continue to play Freedom but can't if there's no girls game.

    Memory bank

means taking that blow-out loss and learning from it and being motivated by it! Working your tail off in the off-season in the hopes that in one, two, or three years you may knock Freedom off and how sweet would that feel to those girls who as freshmen and sophomores got beat by Freedom this year. Most of Patton's team were freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. With the right coach and some serious off-season work they will be much improved over last year. What are you saying, that Patton should only schedule games they think they can win? You don't build character or toughness in a team that way.

I am all for competition and teaching kids how to learn from winning and losing. However, a 78 point loss for a team that wins only a few games (if any) a year means nothing to either team.

Yes - this team should experience the joys of victory - as should all of the people participating in youth sports. The conference blowout losses they receive should be enough.

Here are several scores from this year - 93-15 loss; 83 - 28 loss; 91 - 22 loss. You darn right this team should schedule some easy games!

If this keeps happening, why do you expect girsl to actually want to try out and play the game of basketball. Nobody deserves to practice hard and end up in numerous losses by 60 points or more, especially non conference games.

This team has no choice as to who they play in conference. They do, however, have a choice in their non - conference schedule. And, when they are getting killed in conference, I do believe they should schedule winnable games out of conference whenever possible.

Girls learn from winning and losing close games and girls are deflated from NUMEROUS, unnecessary blowout losses. They will lose their love for the game of basketball.

Again - it is for the kids, not the adults. Who says neighbors have to play when there is no competitive balance?

    scheduling

Having been associated with a new school.....the girls team never had the choice of who was scheduled......the boys team sure did.

Patton is not the only school who in their first few years has took lumps like that. The thing i dont understand is why do u agree to play someone then decide not to.They should been upfront about it from the begining if they didnt want to play us.I know we beat them 91-22 but it wasnt like we ran up the score.Every player played every quarter and freedom didnt press the whole game.
