    Alright Friends..

There is a ton of baseball knowledge on this board. Here is what happened last night in the North Iredell and Mooresville game at NIHS.

NI has a Man on 3rd. He steals home on the pitch. Left handed batter at the plate, swings and misses the ball but his bat hits the catchers mitt for interference. Runner on 3rd is safe at home.

    What is your ruling...

Umpires ruled man is safe at home and put the batter back in the box to swing away.

Mooresville won but that call started a downward spiral in the game and the umpires clearly lost control of the game.

I will let everyone know that one of the kids from North Iredell later called a player from Mooresville and apologized for his actions and his team. That was classy!!! Both teams had high emotions in the game after the call. Mooresville won the game.

    Ruling

Update per rule book: If a runner is attempting to steal a base during catcher's obstruction of the batter then he is awarded the base he is stealing and the batter is awarded first base on the obstruction.

Similar question from YEARS ago, and I just want to see if the call was right. My team was in the championship game. Game was tied in the bottom of the 7th. My team had a runner on third and one out, and your's truely was at the plate. Everyone in the place knew I was going to squeeze, and I did on the second pitch, or at least attempted to. When the runner broke, the catcher jumped out in front of the plate and caught the ball about 2 feet in front of the plate. I didn't have a snowmans chance in he!! of even coming close to the ball because of the catcher's actions. Plate ump awarded the runner home base and we won. Went on to put a butt whipping on them the next day to take the title.

Was the call correct strechy?? I know it is similar to the first post, but in this case the catcher jumped in front of home plate, thus totally inhibiting the batter.

    Obstruction by catcher

I would agree that this is different and would allow the run to score on obstruction from the catcher.

That catcher would have felt a little funny if you had swung! Just something to think about if you are sitting behind the plate! Not a smart decision by him!
