went to a college game and noticed both catchers wearing a wide band on their wrist that apparently has printed codes for pitch selection after receiving a sign from the dugout. Is this the norm now in the college game? Like a football QB.

    signs

It's a series of usually 3 numbers which are called from the dugout. The number sequence is used only once per pitch. After the 4th inning, they change the numbers and use a new set so they cannot be picked.

Example - 486 might be a fast ball, as will 573. Next set of numbers those might be a curve or change up. The number is called, the catcher looks at his code and calls the pitch.

No hand signals are used, just number calling.

another question.........if the opposing bench steals pitch signs, how is the batter (immediately) informed of what pitch is coming?

An example once signs are stolen.........

if bench KNOWS a FB is coming, they will say "let's go 7 (the batter's number)...."

Curveball on the way, "whataya say Pete (player's name)...."

i'm sure there are other ways.........

Yes, even with the wristband. Some cathers that have been back there a while will sometimes be allowed to go there on their own. It is mostly a coaching call and the players that are on the field and the situation will determine that. You will see pitcher sometimes shake off a pitch or the catcher, this is a communication to the coach there maybe something happening that they do not like. Again mostly up to the coach and who he has out there.

Here is the high school rule

Wrist Bands/Play Charts – These are being worn defensively, and offensively to receive signals from the coach(s). Here is our interpretation:
Anyone on the defensive team may wear one EXCEPT the pitcher. Similar interpretation as to wearing a wrist sweat band.

Offensively, IF the Wrist Band/Play Chart has a flap (like you see NFL Quarterbacks open to check the play and then close), it MAY NOT be worn by the batter. IF the Wrist Band/Play Chart does not have a flap (single ply held in place by elastic bands), we will allow this.

    at bat

at the college game, I did not notice if the catchers removed the wrist band / pitch chart while at bat or not.
it appeared not to have a flap.

If it "accidentally comes off" AND WE GRAB IT and take it "hostage" in our dugout can we keep it???? Finders Keepers???

Can we send a batboy/spy in to their dugout to steal it????

Can we rake and pound their pitching and then make fun of their silly sweatbands?
