This one may have slipped past you:Former Grimsley pitcher Aaron Jones and Gospel Light fall to VCS

April 11th, 2008 by Andy in High School

This may be one of the wildest stories of the year in today’s Spring Sports Report. You may find this to be the one of the most interesting and detailed stories that you will ever read at this site.

I play in the same conference as both these teams, and most likely I will be facing Aaron Jones on Thursday when my high school team plays Gospel Light, I was just wanting to get some oppinions on this article, I feel it's mostly downing the kid for the decision he made. Opinions?

    Journalism at it's worst

These coaches that are much smarter than this writer could care less about this loss. Aaron and his family had a private decision to make and I wish them the best. Hope to see him pitch at UNCW next year.

Thankfully, it was not written by a professional journalist. I've read some careless opinions, but to take a shot at a kid and to share an irresponsible, ill-informed opinion like this, insults the intelligence of the people that read the article.

To be honest, I'm sorry the young man's name was posted on this board. I'm going to tolerate it this time only, because I know the members of this board will react to this article in a tone this article deserves.

    Why???

That is a good question. Why go backwards (in the eyes of others) program wise? We can try to answer that question from our minds but it is not our decision. I do not think that UNCW will think less of him. Why should they. They choosen him before this game. Ask the many transfers to other schools. You will get many answers. As for losing to another team. Part of the game. You can be beaten any given day by an team.

PD- UNCW could care less what HS team he played for. They liked his ability, not the team he played for. But it pains me to see others weigh in with their opinions, when they don't have the facts. Did it occur that maybe the kid wanted to get a closer relationship with God? And the school that he was transferring to provided a better opportunity? Not every family's decision to transfer to a particular school is sports related.

First off, I'm embarassed for Aaron that his personal life has been invaded. That's just wrong.

But what baffles me is why someone would think they know what's best for a Kid who is not their son. My son-in-law coaches varsity basketball @ Calvary Baptist here in Winston. He has Kids transfer from West Forsyth, Davie, Mt Tabor, & others. Some are star players too. And invariably everyone screams: "What? Calvary? What an idiot move."

Wrong question. Instead they should be asking: Why did the Kid decide to leave the other school? There's always a reason...

Braves you hit the nail on the head. The most important point is that its nobody's business why this family chose this path.

Transferring from a public school to a private school is legal.
