Not only is she a great hitter, she is also the best bunter I have ever seen. It is a no brainer. You get the runner in scoring position, that is what this situation called for. :shout:

    Bunt

what if you let her swing away and she grounds into a 6-4-3 double play??

Always always always bunt, UNLESS the catcher has a wicked weak arm and you are 100% sure the baserunner can steal.

Bet the kid and her parents are pretty hot, huh, if the coach asked her bunt....if she already has 2 hits on the day. You bunt the situation, not the player....

depends on the situation. if the hitter is a good "under pressure" hitter, let her swing away. if she crumbles under pressure, bunt her and move the runner, let the four hitter knock the runner in.

Small Ball is like an ingrown toenail!.....

......it hurts like hell. In your case, my first choice would be bunt, but, if I thought that the other coach was thinking bunt coming, and was savvy enough with a pitcher who has control, that he might try a high pitch, etc. you know one that might create a pop up or easy out at 2nd, then, and only then, I might give my HITTER, one good "come out of your shoes swing". If that ball is over the plate and belly button high we may have a game ender. After that one chance, I'd go straight to the small ball. Maybe the bunt will be fielded by the pitcher..........and she slings it into rightfield! It happen to the kid at UCLA!

Small ball is what its all about these days as the pitchers have improved your not going to get 2 or 3 hits in a row off an ace pitcher so most times if you get a runner on with no outs especially you have to be able to move them into scoring position any way so that they can score on a hit. JMHO.

My dd is the #3 batter on our Varsity roster. Last year she racked up over 28 RBI's and is the #3 position to bring 1 and 2 across the plate. I think tonight she racked up her 8th sac bunt for our season.

Often when the sac is called her prior coach (our daughter's play together) groans and says "God good, let her hit" or some such. Doesn't set my toes on fire for her to bunt either. But here is the reality of the situation - she lays a beautiful bunt and will get those girls over to 2b and 3b, in scoring position.

This is her coach's personal strategy and bottom line is this...the coach will do what he feels is best for the team. I don't question it or complain about it :)

Well I thoroughly disagree with this statement LOL.

As I said in ^^^^ post my dd just racked up #8 sac bunt for the season, #3 hitter, 28 RBI's last year...yada yada. Not a kid that crumbles under pressure.

Laying down the absolutely correct bunt at absolutely the correct time takes a lot of chops - and a lot of skill. Think about it - girls want to hit away, they want to make it to base, they want to come home. Knowing they are about to sac themselves is a mental challenge all the way. Do what you want for you or do what is best for the team at that moment.

I have seen way more girls choke on the sac bunt than I have seen choke at swinging away - either because they simply don't want to lay it down and bunt poorly until they get the swing away on the second strike...or because they are simply unable to place a bunt in that exact spot exactly when it was needed.

As I said ^^^^, a sac bunt does not light my toes on fire, but I know when that sign is given to my daughter she will lay it down in a heart beat - and I am as proud of her every time she does that as I am every time she hits the triples and doubles she is best known for in that exact same crunch situation.

Bunting is a tremendous skill when you can do it as it is meant to be done - and should not be looked down upon - even when we hate it LOL

:N1Greatjob02: Big thumbs up to all those awesome little crunchtime bunters out there :)
