    Works Both Ways

I have coached for many years, mostly, but not always my kids teams. A good example of the "other problem" is that when making out the lineup, my son got what was left. In my haste to play everyone where they wanted to play, sometimes due to reputation only, I was not always fair to mine. He is somewhat paying the price now. When he was younger, he was one of the better pitchers in the state. He also played middle infield with the best of them. As time went on and my players got better, he began taking a back seat. Now in high school, he isn't the ace nor does he play where I believe he would best help the team had I given him equal chances along the way. I suppose he is a more rounded player for it as he can play any position and not hurt the team.

I guess another peeve of mine would be some of these folks talking about the so called daddy ball. Who would coach them if it werent for the daddies? They dont just walk on to these high school and showcase teams, and by soley meeting the coach, become a player. I have found like most things in life, it is a team effort getting these kids ready for anything in life.

Let's chill on the dads out there. Some of us care as much about your kids as we do ours.

dont get me wrong, the intent of this thread wasnt to dump on dad's coaching, if it werent for that, we wouldnt have softball as it is in north carolina. dad's are the backbone of travel ball, especially in the early age groups. we were talking about taking it to the extreme level of this problem. i have also been guilty of doing the same to my daughter as you have with your son. my wife and i have adopted quite a few girls over the years, paying their ways when it was needed, training them, feeding them, clothing them, etc, etc, and their are many more like us out there doing the job because someone needs to, not has too.

the whole point of this is to show the possible damage you can do to your child later in life when you take it to extremes as in the case described above.

also would like to point out that daddy ball isnt always a case of favoritism towards his or her child. you've pointed this out in your post, and i agree. i also believe that there are a lot more who coach with this concept than have the mindset that "my kid will play no matter what".

    do you agree with that??

I Have To Post This Only !!

:xyxthumbs:My child was never under the "DADDY BALL" situation when I coached just ask her !! If she didn't perform she sat the bench !! I will agree a lot of games are lost because of this action, and eventually people get tired of supporting it !! But I will say this since I gave up coaching my DD has done better ,and her demeanor has improved tremendously over the past 2 years !!! I know alot of you don't like me, because of some of my antics over the years, but my best advice to anyone is not to coach your own kid,and see what happens !!!:xyxthumbs:
