Alexander Centrals' Katy Lohrei slides head first into home plate in the bottom of the sixth inning. Central Davidsons' catcher Gina Antonucci blocks the plate as on deck hitter, Megan Laxton, watches. The score is tied at 0-0 in the fourth game of the day in The Tiffany Crouse Celebration tournament held at ACHS Central Field saturday April 19th.

I don't think my photos show the in between frame to see if the tag was made before Katy's hand touches the plate. We need to go to the video. Comet Fan did you get the video?

    Safe at home

    We have the video.
She was safe. You can see her hand pass between the feet and get to the plate before her the catchers arms come down. Ump appeared to not be in the best position to see this one. Kaity is learning different types of slides, a little better body position would have made this a clear cut safe. Either way, a good play by the offenseive coach, third baseman, catcher, runner, and on deck batter. To make the play that close on this freshman speedster is quite an accomplishment.
Outside of the wins and losses...........
Let's not forget what the day was honoring. Tiffany Crouse #8 is "Safe at Home" in Heaven. I think of her often.

    OUT

Happen to be at the game Thought she was out then and I think she was out in the photo. But didn't notice at the game what #5 was doing in this photo, seems out of place for a on deck batter on a ground ball back to the third basemen. Looks like she is yelling at the cather instead instructing the runner. Question to the umps out there. What would the ruling be if the ball would have come in contact with her before the play was over.

Do they use video or photos to make calls at the bases in any baseball or softball game professional or amateur? Dont think so. Ump called her out get over it.

One more thing, not sure it fits the theme of the day to worry about whether someone was safe or out.

    safe

Was at the game with a couple others. We were all sitting directly to left of the gentleman in the red shirt right at the fence and had a great look at the play. All three of us had no favorite or pick to win or lose (all neutral fans), just out watching some quality softball Saturday and supporting a wonderful cause. The AC runner took off when the ball was hit to third. Third baseman seemed like she was going to go to first and appeared stunned the runner took off. She threw home and it was a wide/high throw and the tag got down late as a result. The AC runner was safe, it was pretty clear. It almost seemed like the umpire was surprised the runner went as well as he started to look at first base for the play to be made there instead based on the actions of the third baseman. He is human and made a mistake. At best the game would have been tied 1-1 and it was possible either team could have won it. Both pitchers threw great and the game was a treat to watch. Leanord was pretty impressive. Kudos to AC for hosting such an important event & to Coach Lambros for sponsoring almost an entire game that went to the scholarship fund. We especially liked the announcer as he was very entertaining. We were all very impressed with the turn out even with the weather and the overall atmosphere.
