Watching games and coaching through chain link fences!!! It really irks me when an umpire makes us keep the dugout door closed. After a long weekend of travel ball I see the chain link pattern when I close my eyes.

 

I see your pain....

......ChaCha! Try putting one hand over your eye and look through the fence....you know, like driving home late at night.......LOL!

 

Realizing that title 9 does not exsist in Iredell county, or at least not at South Iredell. EVERY single field we have been to this year and last has FAR better facilities than we do. That includes Statesville, they play at a the city park. Why can't we get equal treatment with threat of a lawsuit these days? Sorry, just venting, but you asked.

 

I hear ya SI !! Makes you realize how behind the times we are (W.Linc.)after going to North Lincoln's awesome facilities. Our wooden bleachers look like they're smiling at you the planks are so warped....lol. But then Lincolnton doesn't even have a softball field, have to play them at the Betty G. Ross park, so I don't complain..................much.

 

At our high school, the two fields are pretty much equally cared for.

However, at the rec complex a mile down the road. You can look down on two lovely baseball fields with lush green infields and shag carpet like outfields in an equally nice shade of green, all while standing on a half-brown outfields of either of the two softball fields.

But knowing the difference apparently only applies to caring for the grass (and keeping it out of the softball infield). Every time they line the softball fields, they draw a baseball style catcher's box.

 

Irks me...

Polictics in sports!
Coaches or Umpires on a "power trip"!
People who judge someone for their size, not their ability/talent!
People who take someone else's opinion on a person, with out meeting or knowing that person and not judging the person for themselves!
Hypocricy!
Arrogance!
People who expect to treated differently, than those of us that make up the rest of the planet!
People who will walk over, hurt anyone or anything who stands between them and what they want for their kid!
Just some of the most important on my list!

 

Coaches at any level . . . . .

who refuse to reward and recognize excellence for fear of upsetting "team chemistry" or players' parents. This doesn't seem to be as prevalent in boy's/men's teams where outstanding players are cheered and rewarded. I think this is especially true in our sport where one player (the pitcher) plays such a huge role in the game.

I've seen numerous examples over the years where pitchers don't get MVP awards when it was obvious that without the pitcher the team would rarely win. I really think many softball coaches (especially HS coaches) have a hard time reconciling the fact that their success ultimately depends on one 15 - 17 year-old girl. This is especially true at the 1A and 2A level where a single kid can mean the difference between a losing team and state championship. One way to cope with this is to attempt to marginalize the contributions of that individual.
